ITT We Appreciate Good Video Game Music

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised we don't have this. I for one am in love with Jeremy Soule's works. He composed the music for many different games, but is most famous for his work in the Elder Scrolls series (ever since Morrowind), Guild Wars, Neverwinter Nights, and the Harry Potter games. He also composed soundtracks lesser known games like Total Annihilation and some of the Warhammer 40,000 games. But personally, Frog's Theme in Chrono Trigger is the quite possibly the first "good" piece I have ever heard in a video game. Even to this day, Frog is as badass as he was back then. Uhh... Back in the future I mean?

Man, the Skyrim soundtrack...it's freaking unbelievable. One of the few things on my ipod that I actually bought from Itunes. I talked about it a few months back, but check out Skotein's "Kanto Symphony"-he took Pokemon Red/Blue's music and orchestrated it. It's absolutely beautiful.

So I guess I've been meaning to post here for a while. Here goes. If you're into foot-tapping, structured songs, check out songs from the Rhythm Heaven series. This one is my personal favorite right now, but Splashdown 2 and the Japanese version of The Dazzles 2 are great too. The Professor Layton games have some of the best music I have ever encountered, period. It usually includes a lot of strings, accordion, percussion, and the occasional woodwind. My personal favorite is the ending theme to the second game, Iris, but there are many versions of it, like the music box version and the lyrical version. Other good songs include, in no particular order, Huge Weapon, The Last Time Travel, Don Paolo's theme, Layton's Theme, Pandora's Box, Laboratory, and Puzzle Battle. With some going the route of folksy European street music and others going more towards Jazz, it's a delightful mix. The Ace Attorney series has baller music, but I like the official remixes especially., but there are gems in the remixes and crossovers! The Jazz versions of Trucy's Theme, the Fragrance of Dark Coffee (with obligatory Rainymood),
