Speedruns

Recommended Posts

I've never seen the appeal of speedruns, mostly because they all involve exploiting game breaking glitches to "go fast".

It's not really a speedrun but a "Glitch show-off contest", which is interesting to watch just to see the glitches involved, but don't act like it's some massive accomplishment to use a glitch.

Discovering them? Yes. That takes time and effort and all that good stuff.

Using them? Is just repetition.

I'd like to see you do the mario 64 cannonless glitch

speaking of which, mario 64 120 star speedrun is amazing. I've watched it three times now (broken up in multiple sittings of course)

Been watching speedruns for a while now.

This is my favorite run. I started watching people like Adam_AK (who I now don't like as much) and I found Joshimuz. I would watch this guy all day when he streamed regular San Andreas, and watching the leadup to this event last year was amazing, he wasn't able to get any good times but then he just pulled out a new WR at one of the largest speedrunning events of the year.

Segmented runs (like in the OP) are alright, but I really prefer single segment stuff. Out of every segmented run HL2 DWaHMoV is probably my favorite.

Here's pretty much THE site to go to for speedrun streaming.

http://speedrunslive.com/

Personal recommendations for streamers are:

Biiny

Joshimuz (Crash Team Racing, Crash Nitro Cart, GTA: San Andreas)

Cosmo (owner of SRL, and the guy running in John Caveson's video) when he's doing Wind Waker runs (because OoT is almost perfected now and is so short it gets very boring to watch very quickly)

Adam_AK (GTA3, GTA: Vice City mostly)

Can't think of more at the moment but I'll put them in this thread when I do.

The thing is, there are several kinds of speedruns. Glitch-abusing, tool-assisted, sequence-breaking, luck-based, skill-based, plain gotta go fast, along the set %, like 100%, low %, any %

And stuff like this

This is the best TAS video I've seen. I'm not going to say what happens in the super mario world TAS but it's the craziest shit I've ever seen.

Speedruns are a ton of fun to watch, it's too bad that the part of the speedrunning community I've been unfortunate enough to have any sort of contact with/impression of have all been incredibly snot-nosed.
