Well yes, screw Firaxis. I expect an unmodded server NOT TO CRASH just because it has 12 people on it. I even gave it its own computer just so it wouldn't be interrupted.   This is the last straw for me. If it crashes again before we even get to play a single turn, I'm not going to try Pitboss until it gets fixed. There's just no way.

Okay then.   If you need any help be sure to talk to me, I've got an ungodly amount of experience in that area.

I think I sent everyone who posted here a message on Steam, but just to clarify - the server has come back up and hopefully won't crash this time.   If it does... blame Firaxis. It's nice to blame someone else for a change.

So I have completely lost all connection to the server... even though it's still up. Until whatever network issue this is gets fixed, I can't make the server show up to you guys.

WINDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS It restarted for updates. I'm going to try seeing whether Wine/Linux will work, which may or may not make it more stable.

Wait, the server crashed? Argh. I'm putting it back up, but I won't be able to put it back up until tomorrow morning if it crashes again, which I anticipate it will. I'm betting the problem is that it's being left on way too long.

After days of wrangling with the server(s), it's finally up and ready. At least now I know how to make it work for people to host their own servers while remaining under the mask of the SPUFserver.   IP is 162.217.250.145, join via Pitboss under Multiplayer. There are only 12 spots, so get in fast, and post in the thread when you do.

Valve time fix: the AMA procedures link has been removed and the AMA procedures are now on top of the AMA forum. Nifty, eh?

I'm very annoyed right now.   Once I can find a spare laptop that can actually run Civ 5, I'll be able to set up the game. Of course, the requirements for hosting the server just have to include running the game itself...

The average is dropping so much that it's probably better for me to wait until it finally stabilizes...

Keep in mind that we don't have to limit ourselves to playing just one game. I envision one main Pitboss game and perhaps a few smaller games that are realtime.   Of course, it would be helpful if those realtime games were shortened, especially by using a game speed like Quick. That way there's less of a constraint on the people that want to play.

Thoughts on my explorations: why do you even need to own the game to run a game server? why do you need graphics to run a game server? since when didn't we have a Mumble? I hate servers.

If I were self-centered, I would suggest writing a novel based on what you think the lives of the people here are - who are they, what do they do for a living, how do they spend their free time, etc.   Instead, I suggest writing about a space tragedy.

If anyone has a Civ V key that they can give up please send it to me and that way I can set up the server with it. Thanks!

It's a fragvid HUD, it hides most of that stuff so that you can see the action. I don't use that HUD to play, obviously.
