  1. binary and Rammite are the only ones at full liberty to discuss it.
  2. On the contrary, the admin team (which helped me to come up with this vision and implement it) and the limited number of people I have given a preview have all expressed their excitement for the update.
  3. There aren't any brakes on the hype train.   And, to be clear, the reason the announcement was made early was so that you would get rid of your initial preconceived notions about possible changes now and be more accepting of the experience when it arrives.
  4. Well, I COULD have migrated us first without this massive public testing period we have planned.   Regardless of what you think, it's not as bad as you think it is. We're just doing some reliability testing before we push it live, because we want the preview to be as smooth as possible.
  5. That's a private test site that is unrelated to the current efforts.
  6. You all have no faith. Trust me when I say this is going to be awesome.
  7. No, it's not a parody of any sort.
  8. No, we've spent time tweaking a reliable software solution that we're putting finishing touches to. I think binary explained it a bit better than I did.
  9. Thanks for your technobabble, but what I am talking about is very much well-thought-out and real.
  10. It's used by some of the largest websites in the world. This will make it able to sustain our future growth that will undoubtedly occur as a result of us using this platform.   ok ok im calling you out on this this is some sort of joke it's like a reddit format isn't it are you suggesting we just move to a subreddit or something?   No, I am not suggesting that. We will very much remain independent.

  12. It is a temporary name for the preview. Once we transition, it shall simply be known as SPUFpowered, as we are all used to.

    New Forum Bug List

"Backseat moderating" is a bit of an odd term, though. "Shitposting" essentially means deliberately failing to contribute to a discussion by deliberately making incomprehensible, irrelevant, or facetious arguments.   If someone attacks me in a debate with a completely irrelevant point, I can retort by rejecting the notion that they're contributing to the discussion.   I probably wouldn't say they're shitposting, per se, but I'm essentially saying the same thing with less force.   Where is the line drawn between meta criticism ("you're shitposting") and non-meta criticism ("you make no sense and your points are meaningless")? It seems like a bit of a headache for moderators.   There's a distinct difference between a debate and a regular conversation. If you're saying "you're shitposting" in regular conversation, then it's quite apparent which of the two it is.

You misunderstand. I wasn't the one who added the filter, and I never condoned it as a solution to the problem or otherwise.   I'm simply suggesting that complaining about shitposting could be seen as backseat moderating, and if it were to be a problem again, that could easily be codified.

For what it's worth, I never liked the filter, but the shitpost-countershitpost argument was getting very tiring, and if it becomes an issue again...
  16. Thursday and Friday nights are bleh. I like this Saturday thing.

    Is TF2 P2W?

    I don't deny that.

    Is TF2 P2W?

Pay-to-win is not that you automatically do better and/or win by spending money, it's that you can gain advantages by spending money that otherwise would only be available after spending time/effort. If you assume the former definition, there are very few games that actually fit the criteria.

    Old Rep System?

Apparently the status update did not suffice for you to make such mundane comments.

    Is TF2 P2W?

You can still receive items and trade other people's items away. However, items that drop to your account are bound to it until you upgrade to premium.

    Is TF2 P2W?

Technically, any game that has gameplay-affecting components that can be bought (and not only earned through in-game play) is some degree of pay-to-win. I would say that Dota 2 and CS:GO are not pay to win, as they do not sell gameplay-affecting items.   Thus, TF2 is pay-to-win. However, it's very low on that scale because you can easily get the weapons through drops and trading and crafting.

    Old Rep System?

Rep can't be made into the system it was before.   Also, l'interguy will be receiving a warning shortly for bumping a topic with an unrelated query.

Which is why the rule says "outside of /b/", presumably.   Let's face it, whenever someone thinks of 4chan they're thinking of /b/.
  24. The poll options for CS:GO are terrible.   CS:GO isn't like every other shooter out there in that it places a heavy emphasis on skill, and you need to play the game a lot if you want to do well. However, that's not to say that you can't have fun with it at a low level, but it definitely is a lot more serious and one-dimensional than TF2 is.   In particular, TF2 is much more about good movement than it is about good aim (unless you're playing Sniper). In CS:GO, good aim is a lot more important - except for boosting, movement is a whole lot simpler: be still when shooting, walk to avoid making noise, run if neither matters, and don't ever crouch.
