I miss the old MLM forums, hell I miss forums like this in general. Seems like all communities pretty much only function on Reddit and Discord nowadays. They're both good platforms (Discord especially) but the majority of subreddits feel very impersonal, no matter their size. The only 'classic' style forums that I know are still relatively active are the LTT forums and maybe Somethingawful (But even that I'm not sure on). I miss how you would get to know people, and users would kinda grow a reputation, whether it was positive or negative.

Fucking RIP. I don't like to take some moral highground against drugs but Xanax and Fentanyl are scary things, Fentanyl especially seems like it's just a modern day heroin -

New Yung Lean album is out and it's probably my favourite thing he's done so far. Gud, Sherman and Whitearmor really knocked it out of the park with the production on it -
I know what you mean, but I completely disagree with how you describe the game. I opened roughly 27 lootboxes just from playing the last event, doing all the arcade bonuses+all the levels. I had 2700 coins before the envent started, and finished the even with 3500. During the even I got 2 normal legendaries and 1 of the old halloween legendaries (with mercy) and 1 of the new halloween legendaries (Pirate Ana). I then spent 3000 coins to get the Symmetra skin which of the event legendaries was far and away the one I wanted the most and if I hadn't saved up all those coins before the even I wouldn't have been able to get it. The worst part is that based on the numbers that people have calculated, and that Blizzard have put out because of Chinese laws, I got lucky to get that many legendaries to drop. It's definitely not the worst offender, but I think to say that it's implemented as well as it could be is pretty wrong. The fact that these are items in the game that Blizzard know people would want and don't provide any alternative is scummy. I'm not arguing that there shouldn't be lootboxes, but the fact that you could continuously grind, and buy loot boxes and never get the legendary you want is awful in my opinion. The only situation you could be in where you could 100% guarentee that you could get a legendary that you want would be if you owned every single item in the game, and then either grinded, or bought 100 loot boxes (which would cost you $90) got the worst luck possible and got 3 commons and a rare in each box (all duplicates, obviously) and then bought the single legendary you wanted. I get what you mean about them not being the worst, and I don't wanna sound like a cunt, but to say that you generally have enough to get what you want without a hell of a lot of grinding is pretty wrong.

PC Gamer posted an article today where Mike Morheim (the CEO of Blizzard) said he doesn't think that Overwatch deserves the criticism for its Loot Boxes. People in the comments were arguing that it's not a problem because the stuff in lootboxes has A. No tangiable value and B. Doesn't affect gameplay. I understand that Overwatch definitely isn't the worst offender, but I don't know how people can mindlessly defend the random distribution of items for real life currency. Like christ, I understand if the Lootboxes are an option for getting stuff, but when you can't buy the item you want directly and have to either grind for levels, or spend money and THEN randomly get the item you want from a box I think there's a real problem.

Even more significant because Nostalrius (the original server that got shut down) transferred their data and code to Elysium, but then condemned Elysium for running servers and essentially said "we want to focus on getting official legacy servers, as opposed to private ones". And recently, as in like 2 weeks ago, the lead dev for Elysium was revealed as having stolen a large amount of the donations for server costs, and another guy was spawning gold into the game and selling it, as well as selling level 60 characters. So some of the devs took the code, left and made ANOTHER server (called Lights Hope) which pretty much all Elysium players migrated to, as they copied all the characters over too.

I've never played much of FFXI but it seems you're getting Absolute Virtue and Pandemonium Warden confused. Absolute Virtue essentially had all of the 'Two Hour' Abilities in the game (named as such because they had a two hour cooldown). That includes Benediction, a spell that healed all of the casters HP. From what I've read the stratagy involved to kill Absolute Virtue was that you woulds stun it the second it started casting any ability. That would put the ability on cooldown, but it wouldn't get cast. Apparantly Square Enix put out a video of them killing it internally to show it was possible and the stun stratagy was the one they used. Many people know of Absolute Virtue and it is one of the Super Notorius Monsters, and one of the hardest fights in the game (still difficult even nowadays) however the famous story of group fighting a boss for 18 hours is actully from Pandemonium Warden. The warden would essentially take the form of 11 other Notorius Monsters that players would have to fight through in succession before fighting the actual boss himself, and combined with a collosal health pool Beyond the Limitation (the Linkshell fighting him) gave up after 18 hours. After this Square Enix nerfed the bosses health, and put a timer on that would despawn him 2 hours after he spawned and it took till 2009 for it to be killed.

So recently FFXIV has released a new boss fight called the Unending Coil of Bahamut. For reference, prior to this boss fights had 'normal' mode which could be cleared by anyone in a group of randoms providing they had watched a guide, or were competent enough at the game to be able to tell that generally you shouldnt stand in a big fucking thing of fire ( and even if they hadn't, a normal mode group can easily be carried so long as about half the members know what to do). The next difficulty is 'Savage' which is the same bosses, but with extra damage, more mechanics and all that good stuff. In a raid tier (which is comprised of 4 different bosses) typically the first 2 can be cleared by a competent pick up group who know the stratagy and can do good DPS, and then the next two require very good DPS, very good coordination, and the correct choice of classes. Now in patch 4.1, Square Enix released a new fight called the Unending Coil of Bahamut. This fight is a combination of the final boss, from the 5th fight of the first raid in the base game, the 4th (and final) boss from the SECOND raid in the base game, and then the 3rd and 4th bosses from the third raid in the base game. That's 4 bosses rolled into one fight (obviously in separate phases). To give a refernce of how hard this fight is, it first requires you to have beaten all of the bosses from the current raid tier from the current expansion on Savage difficulty, which in itself is ridiculously hard, but on top of that this new fight (the Unending Coil of Bahamut) is so hard that Square Enix decided to give it a whole new difficulty class, called 'Ultimate' placing it as the only fight to have that tag, and obviously putting it ahead of any other fight in the game in terms of difficulty. When they announced they were putting this in, Yoshi P, the lead dev for FFXIV, said that if your group struggled to beat Alexander 3 Savage (which up to this point was considered the hardest fight in the game when it was current content, and ended up breaking many group apart because of how hard it was) then you straight up would not be able to kill the Unending Coil of Bahamut. I'm saying all of this because currently people are obviously attempting to beat Unending Coil. The people fighting it are the best players in the world, and they've been at it for (if I'm correct) 5 days now and the furthest any group is know to have gone is less than 50% into the third phase of the fight. Considering the fight is 5 phases long that's actually kind of fucking ridiculous. I dunno why I'm posting about this but I love this kind of shit. Back when I played WoW the hardest raids would all typically be cleared within a week of release, maybe two weeks if there was something especially hard, but those were raids comprised of 8-12 different bosses. This fight in FFXIV is one boss fight, which people haven't even cleared half of within a week, and from the looks of things it's gonna take quite a while before they progress any further. I've always loved MMOs my entire life for this reason. I've been playing them since about 2005 and I remember growing up hearing stories of things like The Pandemonium Warden and Absolute Virtue from Final Fantasy 11 (two super bosses which took upward of 18 hours to kill, and had to be nerfed down to 'mere' 4 hour fights) and the players from Asherons Call who defended an in game crystal which when destroyed would trigger an in game update, 24 hours a day for the express purpose of not letting anyone on their server be able to play the new content. And obviously I can't really go without mentioning Naxxramas from Vanilla WoW, which less than 1% of players even ever entered, let alone cleared. I love super hard shit like this in video games, I've always thought that they're what really make MMOs amazing. I personally think the 360 and PS3's focus on online gaming really damaged MMOs (obviously unintentionally), because the novelty of playing with others wore off very quickly, and seeing a fight this hard really makes me love the game.

My mum recently got Jury Duty in the UK and she's really looking forward to doing it. Dunno how it is in the US but here in the UK the Jury don't have to give any reasoning for their decision (so far as being able to acquit someone even when there's complete evidence against them). My Law teacher from a couple of years ago told me about how her husband (who was a barrister) was the prosecution in a case. The court was going through renovations on the day that he was in court, and he went to the toilet when the Jury gold told to make their decision. Because of the renovations the toilet and Jury room were this sort of temporary building that had been built, and were right next to eachother. Apparantly he could hear the Jury through the wall, and the decided to acquit the guy (despite damning evidence) because he had no family, and a dog, and they were worried about what might happen to the dog if he got sent to prison. She was the teacher that made me want to go on and do Law at University, and while I have absolutely no wish to become a barrister I'd really love to be given Jury duty. -
I've tried to play a few time since, unfotunately my account got hacked and was used for gold selling. The only way I can recover it is by putting in my old Guild Wars Nightfall key from 9-10 years ago (which I'm pretty sure at this point I've lost), running a full system virus scan, and sending the results to Arenanet. I'd love to try it again but fuck doing all of that to be quite honest.

So apparantly Game (as in the chain of video game shops in the UK) are moving away from solely just selling video games because obviously brick and mortar stores aren't as successful anymore, and are moving towards doing like LAN Cafe type things. My local one in Cardiff has like 10 PCs, 10 Xbones and 10 PS4s. Was in there today because my mate was buying an Xbone and overheard one of the guys there talking to a customer about these tournaments that Game run, and that there was one for Tekken which they run every monday, where they make a team of pretty much whoever signs up and you play in online tournaments against other people from other Game stores around the UK. Decided to turn up to that because I thought if I got onto the team then cool, and if not then I could still play some fun games against other guys. Wasn't expecting many people to turn up, and it ended up just being me and another guy from the Tekken team playing eachother for a couple of hours, and at the end they said if I wanted I could just straight up be on the team. Decided it would be a cool way to get to know some people and play fun games so I joined. p much im a fuckin professional gaymer now xD
