Like I said, Twitch is useful as an archive for speedrunners. They don't know when they're going to get a good run so being able to upload hours and hours of footage is a hell of a lot easier than having to record on Fraps, DXTory or using a Dazzle etc and then manually delete it.

Alright there's a lot of misconceptions here. Firstly, Google HAS NOT purchased Twitch YET. This isn't Google forcing something onto them, they are doing this of their own accord. Secondly they ARE doing it in a stupid way, but there is literally no other way for them to effectively do it. Twitch is extremely fucking big in case people hadn't noticed, and having anything other than an automated service wouldn't work. Thirdly it's not that people give a shit about vods (although many people do for speedruns) it's that they've (again) gone about it the wrong way. Finally this whole dilemma is a good thing. Ever since Own3d shut down Twitch has had literally no competition for streaming games, because of this people have started using Hitbox, which even if it's only small at the moment shows people are willing to move away if Twitch do stupid shit again. Just to add, anyone who thinks that Twitch shouldn't be muting stuff full stop is completely wrong. It is against the law. The law is outdated and incorrect, but it's still the law and Twitch have to follow it. They've gotten too big to just be ignored.
