  1. everything for my deck has arrived

    except the kalonian tuskers

    which are kind of important

    goddamnit

I'm pretty sure they're never coming since the seller claimed to have shipped them on the 16th and everything else that shipped that day arrived on like the 20th

  2. I don't know how many of you have heard of/seen this, but it's really fucking cool.

It's basically MTG:O for free. It's a little buggy and imperfect, but it lets you play with any deck you want online or locally, or against bots.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, it actually enforces rules, doesn't make players use the "honor" system or anything, even stuff like Snapcaster Mage works fine

  3. After reading up on the best way to start playing Modern for cheap, I found this primer and liked what I saw quite a bit. I'll be putting a similar one together in the next few days to see how it does.

It's no Snapcaster-touting UR Delver, but it should be able to at least play, if not be especially consistent or good. I'll see how it does at the local FNM.

  4. An IRL friend of mine was watching me and my friend who got me into Magic play during school and seemed really interested, asking questions, etc.

he comes in to school today, shows me his new deck he bought packs for and made, and it has a fucking Elspeth in it

I swear it's brand new players that get the good pulls from packs

I myself pulled a bloodstained mire from my first booster

  5. EDIT: here's a setup I just made. See if you like it; it ended up being VERY burny, so maybe you do want to go Temur and slow the deck down a bit

    Magma Jet x4- $387.08

this pricing function might be a little borked

Anyway, I have to say I really like how that turned out. Burn decks are fun. It shouldn't be hard to acquire most of the parts for relatively cheap.

I really appreciate it, Raz. I'll give that a shot as soon as I can.

  6. I'm not super worried about keeping it to a scry cheese sort of thing. I'm just looking to morph my deck to the best it can be at the lowest cost, regardless of what I change.

I'll take a look at that deck setup when I get home, as I'm on a school computer right now.

I appreciate all the help you guys are giving me. I've only been playing MtG for about three weeks tops, so I don't yet fully understand the intricacies of deck building and matchups and whatnot.

  7. Finally got around to looking at this properly

Oh, that reminds me, I was gonna post the deck I made with my friend's help.

Don't be gentle, tell me why it's shit.

#1 problem in gold letters is you have way too few lands. With your curve ending at 6, you want 23 lands at the very least; I'd run 25 myself, especially since every scryland you run makes all other lands better since you can push them if needed.

Second, you want more scrylands. Your deck is built around it, as it gives a free way to trigger Flamespeaker Adept. If they are too expensive to get, you still need more fix to support a tri-color deck efficiently. Definitely get four of the Temur trilands, and some of the gain 1 life dual lands if scrylands are too expensive.

Third, you have very little real removal. Get some burn; the fourth Magma Jet is a must in this deck, and some Stoke the Flames or Lightning Strikes aren't bad either. You could also get some bearpunches but I hate fight for removal myself. Voyages End is alright but keep in mind bounce is always card disadvantage and thus only good for tempo, while you're also running a lot of endgame fats.

Fourth, you have a lot of cards that are just bad, like Sigiled Starfish and Temur Ascendancy. One-ofs are generally a bad idea, especially since a lot of them seem rather random. Remove most of your one-ofs (except Prognostic Sphinx, that card is actually REALLY good) and get all four of the Rattleclaw Mystics.

Finally, this is more an advice for future decks than for this one, since I don't think you'll be willing to change your deck this drastically: green has no purpose in this deck altogether. If you want to build a scry deck, it's much more beneficial to just go UR so you have a high consistency and can run fewer lands, and UR has by far the best scry cards. Right now you're a bit in the middle starting off with a tempo deck that suddenly tries to switch to ramp midgame with bombs like Sagu Mauler, and you'll often end up with big green fatties uselessly sitting in your hand earlygame or tiny red and blue spells being irrelevant lategame. If you build a deck, try to first come up with a strategy of what you want to do, then start putting the cards together. Looking at the list it seems you wanted to make a Temur deck since you like Temur and then halfway through building thought "oh, I could make a scry deck!".

    /opinions

In my defense, this deck was conceived for me by a friend of mine who's also fairly new to Magic but knows more than I do.

I think you'd be wrong about my willingess to change my deck so drastically; that depends entirely on how you would recommend doing so. What would replace the things I use green for, like Sagu Mauler and Savage Knuckleblade and Rattleclaw Mystic and the like?

And no, I can't really afford a bunch of Temples of Epiphany. Shit gets expensive. A few Swiftwater Cliffs wouldn't be hard to get, though.

Also, if Sigiled Starfish is a bad idea, what would be a good idea? Figured the scry would be useful but according to you it isn't worth it, so what would you recommend instead?

  8. Gonna watch an episode or two of Yuru Yuri in about 5 minutes, anyone's welcome to watch if they want
