Every time I try reuploading my avatar it's too big a file. How do I compress a 500kb gif to <50kb without making it look like ass?

I'm gonna run under the assumption it was pulled back to heal. That nosepass is a bitch to down. I'm a bit tempted to try a Nuzlocke with Platinum, but that's like hard mode even for Nuzlockes.
