Need some help figuring something out. Dark Knight Rises (this is not spoilery) claims Gotham has 12 million people. New York City (the largest city in the US) has 8 million, and only four cities in the world have 12 million or more. Gotham also appears to be surrounded by bridges and tunnels (as shown by the ferry scenes in the dark knight). Where the hell is Gotham?
