so in OR I'm gonna go with May except I'm naming her June. Because I can. Also I'm starting with Mudkip and naming it Simon, and Mega Altaria will be Wuffles. Other than that, names to be determined as I go.

Scags' 3DS name is Neko, btw

Oh man Lucario is fun now.

Huh. Guess the Naruto vs Sasuke fight that started just last chapter is gonna be the shortest final battle ever. ...good. Weirdly, unless I'm reading the dates wrong, it'll end on 699 rather than 700. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The exact moment I fell in love with this game was the moment I realized everyone can dual wield anything I've got the main character swinging two spears around like a maniac and it's incredible.

Okay wow, Bravely Default has one of the most weirdly inventive opening sequences I've ever seen. I can't even explain it, but it involved the 3DS camera and an AR scan. as of about five minutes in: This music is incredible.

on another note, I skimmed the current season of SAO 1: where the fuck is asuna? 2: did that girl just smash a guy over the head with a boombox (in real llife) 3: meh. on another note, someone had a comment about what season 1 gets kinda right as far as MMOs go, and it was rather amusing Spoiler 1)Guilds 2)Information brokers 3)Cool rewards from obscure small quests - not powerful, just cool 4)Crafter infrstructure, crafter shops, crafter as primary occupation 5)Fights over who gets to fight the world boss 6)One member of the party feels like they are useless, doesn't enjoy the game, sticks with it only because their friends pressure them into persevering 7)High level hardcore player hangs out with noobs and protects them 8)The last party for the raid is maid up of the people who don't have enough friends 8.1)MVP 9)People just hang out, specialise in some weird side-skill, become the best at it. 9.1)The final challenge for that weird side-skill actually requires also being high character level. 10)Things get easier during the mid-game, before they get insane near the end-game. 11)Psychopath PK 11.1)D34DLY-D34DLY clones 11.2)Scams 12)Guild Drama 13)Act cute and people will give you gifts 14)Blocker-stabber formation. I haven't seen a lot of games where shield-warriors can physically present a wall, but in those they can, this formation always emerges. Blockers in front, people with large, ranged or stabby weapons behind them. 15)Legendary hardcore players are celebrities. 16)Hardcore players are aloof. 17)Softcore players are openly hostile to hardcore players. 18)Cries of "Hax!" or in the case of SAO "cheater!" 19)Last minute patch changed the boss mechanics. 20)Rare seasonal event boss 21)Some asshole put a "???" level mega-boss in a noob zone dungeon.

So yeah I decided to make a thread for my write-ups of stuff rather than clunk up the Animu thread. Unlimited Blade Works. Episode 0. The hype is at critical mass. Let’s begin. Spoiler “an ufotable production” ._. TINY RIN Tokiomi and Aoi in shadows as Tokiomi pats her head, gives her a book, and goes off to die. “Come home soon, Father.” Oof. Present day: Rin is angry at her alarm clock. Also she lives in a very nice house. “I was up until late last night, so just a few more minutes.” *alarm keeps ringing* “Jeez, you’re heartless!” Rin, are you channeling me? Rin with her hair down is very nice. In her school attire with a fetching red coat over it, she grabs a red-jeweled pendant, saying that even though “It” hasn’t begun, can’t be too careful. I repeat: Damn nice house. Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works title card. Episode #00: Prologue. Very nice scenery of the city as Rin walks to school. But she doesn’t see… anyone, really. Oh hello someone. A girl in an archery uniform. Apparently Rin’s early. Ayako Mitsuzuri. Also, Rin’s clocks are an hour fast. Whoops. Anywho, Rin and Mitsuzuri (whose design I really like) chat about the archery club and oh hello, Sakura Matou. Hoooly crap those are dead eyes. Also very purple. “Work hard, Tohsaka-sempai.” And then a minute later, Shinji Matou. A prick. “I’m not very interested in archery.” Rin says. Hee-hee. Shinji’s a prick, and Rin shoots him the hell down. I’VE MISSED YOU SO MUCH, RIN. Fujimura! And Issei, student council president who is suspicious of RIn. And on that note, Shirou makes his first appearance, having apparently fixed a heater. Issei apparently asks him to diagnose this stuff a lot because he’s good at it. Blah blah blah school stuff. Rin, on the roof, ponders the pendant. It was in a box of stuff her father left her (behind a puzzle to decode), and when she opened it, all the clocks in her house went nuts. The pendant, however, isn’t really much help for summoning a servant- according to “that priest,” there are only two slots left. Back home, Rin has a message on her phone. Apparently it’s January 31. Oh hello, Kirei’s voice. The deadline for the Grail War is upon her. And on that note, a magic seal shows up on her hand. That night, at 2 AM (you did check the clocks, right?), she’s prepped to summon. I really like the effort they put into the ritual, this is a fantastic sequence. And the summoning… does a whole lot of smoke? And there’s a crash in her living room. When Rin messes up, she does not do so halfway. And hello, servant. White-haired, tan guy with a red coat, armor(?), and sitting slouched in the wreckage of the living room. With a bitchin’ theme. And Rin realizes that she forgot to fix the clocks. It’s an hour early which is why she messed up. The mystery servant trolls her. To the point where he says he’ll decide all the strategy for the war. Rin’s pissed, and this guy keeps antagonizing her. Clearly these two will get along like a house on fire. But he does have a lot of confidence, it seems. Rin uses a Command Seal to tell him “Obey everything I say.” And the servant is annoyed that she’d do something that impulsive. Hah. The Command Seal didn’t have the intended result because it was a very non-specific order, he exposits. Also, they can feasibly have incredible results up to warping space-time if used correctly and specifically. Rin stuns about the mistake, but because she is such a powerful mage, the command had a partial effect. Basically, he’ll now listen to her, just not literal obedience. And oh that is TOTALLY Yuki Kajiura doing the soundtrack I am SO HAPPY. This servant, we learn, is Archer. Rin’s disappointed he’s not Saber, but the two do seem to have a working relationship now. In that Archer says “you’ll regret saying i’m not the best” and Rin says “I hope so.” And then Rin asks who Archer is, and he doesn’t know. Apparently, the botched summoning borked up his memories. Whoops. But: “I am a servant who was summoned by you. Therefore, I am the most powerful.” Oh wow. Rin then orders him to clean up the wrecked living room. With a broom and dustpan. Archer’s appalled. “As you wish. And then you can go to hell, master.” *laughing uncontrollably* Next day, Rin decides to just skip school. Apparently the summoning was really draining on her mana. And Archer cleaned very, very well. And he also made tea. Very good tea. The two plan to explore the city today, but first, “the most important exchange of our pact.” Names. Or rather, Rin’s name considering amnesia-Archer. Also, she’s not a morning person. Archer just decides to call her Rin. So apparently Archer can go astral or something because Rin’s just wandering and pointing out things. One montage later, the two are atop a very tall building. Archer just snarks that he could have gone to the top of the building and seen everything with perfect clarity from there. Wha- apparently Rin spots someone from atop the building. Good vision, it’s nighttime in a city and you’re twenty stories up. Rin apparently doesn’t have a wish from the Grail, even though it can do more or less anything. She’s just fighting to win. Archer likes this. Rin is tsun-tsun. I have missed this series so goddamn much. A bit later, Rin sees Sakura talking to some blond guy in fancy clothes. Okay? Rin goes back to school and everything goes technicolor for a moment. Apparently there’s a barrier being set around the school. It’s either powerful enough that they don’t need to hide or they’re a real novice. After school, they’re gonna wipe it out. Oh hello Sakura. Interesting timing. Also a door mysteriously closes when they’re not looking. Much later, Rin’s been searching out the barrier’s runes and realizes that, when it’s activated, it will quite literally dissolve every human inside. Holy… And servants could use this to gain more mana. So an unscrupulous master or servant could do this and get way, way more powerful. Rin decides to erase it and that’s a Servant who tells her not to. Not his circles, but he wants to fight Archer anyway. They’re atop a roof, and that’s bad placement for her. This is Lancer. Blue hair, blue bodysuit, and red spear. Rin barely escapes his first attack, leaping off the roof with mage-buffs where Archer catches her and they keep running. But Lancer, being a servant, is way faster and Archer barely blocks the attack with a short sword. But now they’re on the ground. So. Fight or fight? “Show me what you’ve got!” Rin says. And the fight is on. With Kajiura-chanting. YES. (And, somewhat jarringly, Inception-horn sounds.) This is a fantastic first fight. Rin’s appropriately astounded, but Archer just lost his sword and then he summons another one? Huh? And he’s got his first one back even though it shattered. Okay, what? Archer’s fighting style seems to be “let sword get broken and summon more.” Archer apparently lost his sword 27 times. The hell kind of archer is this, Lancer asks. Archer, however, claims he can totally tell who Lancer is. Lancer decides to pull out his Noble Phantasm and the spear starts glowing- but they’re interrupted by a student who stayed late and Lancer dashes off. To eliminate the witness. Crap. Although Archer comments that Lancer's phantasm would actually have killed him. So uh... why would you let him use it in the first place? Rin catches up to Archer and, well, the witness has been eliminated. Archer goes to search for Lancer, and Rin decides to at least take responsibility for her mistake and sit with the dying victim- and recognizes him. (It’s totally Shirou, the hair made it too obvious) Rin’s really broken up over this, but realizes there’s one way to save him. The pendant. Which then drops to the floor. Now home Rin is morose and Archer returns the pendant. Except Rin just now realizes that if Lancer or his master learns the witness lived, well… So Rin and Archer dash off to try to save him again, and Archer senses another servant who he barely fends off. This time, it’s definitely Saber, invisible sword and all. And that’s the end of episode zero. Next time: Shirou takes the stage. “Winter Stage, a Fateful Heart." It’s everything I hoped it’d be and more. Ufotable. Kajiura soundtrack. RIN. ARCHER. And this is just the first episode. I am so, so excited.
