    That was an ugly, ugly football game. And now the Patriots, Steelers, Broncos, and Chiefs are the AFC teams left.

    Kansas City beat my baseball team in the World Series and knocked my football team out of the playoffs indirectly

    ...I have nothing against the Broncos

    Also, I'm honestly beginning to wonder if the NFL's days are numbered. The officiating this year was atrocious, the commissioner's a moron, the evidence about concussions and CTE is piling up despite the NFL's best efforts, the daily fantasy crap is taking a hit, and all this dirty play and off the field crap is being noticed and scrutinized more than ever before.

    I know the NFL is making a truly ludicrous amount of money for a ludicrous number of people and businesses, but something has to give, right? Am I the only one thinking this might be the beginning of the end?

    Well, even though I worked for them for a week, and they promised to pay for the training, they never paid. After I tried calling them about a dozen times, my dad tried, and they said "check's in the mail" ... a week ago. So we called back the other day and they asked us to come in to talk today. Just now we called them to confirm and got voicemail.

     

    Absolutely do not take jobs with sketchy sales/marketing companies. Ever.

     

    Edit: So they just called back, saying "we'll have the check by next Friday." Yeah, no, we're coming over to pick it up or we're going small claims court on them.

    (If I don't post by tonight, they probably stabbed us when we walked in.)

     

    edit 2: They say they'll direct deposit it by Monday. So I'm keeping a skeptical eye on my account.

    Also, the guy prepared for the meeting by putting a gigantic stack of envelopes on his desk and saying they were all checks that had been returned to sender. What a slimeball.

    Also, it's 18 fahrenheit out and I have to have a window open because the heater in my room decided "fuck you I'm going full blast."

    Though actually the last couple of levels haven't been too bad but FUCK Olympus/Underworld and Large Bodies in particular.

    Underworld is the exact spot where I gave up on a critical mode run :|

     

    In DDD, I got stuck on Riku's (semi-)final boss who is one of the toughest bosses in the series. What I ended up doing was level grinding like a madman to get the EXP Walker ability (as it sounds, get EXP from just moving around) from one of the spirits, then tape down the analog pad so he'd run in a circle overnight. It took me from level 40 to level 57, and it still took me four more tries. Ugh.

     

    Then again, DDD is going to look incredible on the PS4 remix when that comes out. I'll probably just power through that one on Beginner just for the pretty factor.

    So some of my thoughts:

     

    Spoiler

    Good:

    - Finn is awesome. Probably my favorite new character, and some of my favorite lines in the entire franchise.

    - Oh my god, BB-8 is fantastic.

    - I'm neutral on Rey so far, but I've got high hopes. 

    - John Williams. Enough Said.

    - daaaaaaamn the effects

    - The lightsaber fight with Kylo Ren, both parts of it, looked really good and genuine. It didn't look like the over-the-top ballet of the prequel fights, and it had a good mix of actual technique, desperation from the heroes, and KR slowly becoming more desperate.

    - Speaking of, Kylo Ren is a new type of Star Wars villain, and I like it. Even at the end of the movie, I felt a touch of pity for him, while also thinking he might redeem in the next movies.

    - HAN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    - They didn't force a pointless romance between Finn and Rey! Hooray for a man and a woman in the lead roles of a movie just being buddies! 

     

    Bad:

    - That one scene where the First Order guy gives a bombastic speech, right before they fire the superweapon, is the most blatant Nazi knockoff in the history of cinema. I'm sorry, but that was fucking terrible.

    - The final scene on the cliff went on way too long. There's multiple camera angles, including a big sweeping orbital shot, as Rey stands there holding the lightsaber out to Luke and nothing happens for a full minute. 

    - This one might just be me, but the visual effect of a blaster bolt hanging in midair when Kylo Ren stopped it was hilariously silly. 

    - When they "un-fixed" the gas thing on the Falcon, how did Han and Chewie not choke and die? My dad brought that up and it's been bugging me all night. (side note -"can you un-fix it" is a fantastic line)

    - What Binary said about Chewie and Han. 

    - Poe shows up at the beginning of the movie, is cool, gets captured and rescued, then dies in the escape and Finn gets his jacket and (unintentionally) his mission. And then he shows up an hour later perfectly fine with a one-line explanation. The fuck kind of writing is that?

     

    Misc: 

     

    - The recycled plot was kind of awkward. On the other hand, that meant we got Han as the resident Obi-Wan, which is fucking awesome.
