So I've finally returned to making monsters for you all. "Comeau, you LOSER! I bet this is nothing but a meaningless apology after months of not having our monsters finished!" Actually, no.

I've returned because (primarily) of what happened recently with me giving Alex my Snatcher sheet for their custom campaign - It felt good, giving that to somebody else because they thought it would be a cool addition to their game; and all because I saw somebody accepting another person's ideas.

The world is bettered, rather than worsened, when we can accept the thoughts of others into our own worldview - we get to expand on our horizons; build new relationships between cultures and people; form cultures of our own from the union of two worldviews; and even develop better ideas - all because we listened to people.

And that's why I'm starting this up again - not for my own interest - but to share ideas. To let other people have a chance to expose me to new things - and in turn, for me to support them by giving them what I hope would improve their campaign. It's such an interdependent thing, the simple act of making something for someone else. And that's why I'm starting up again. Hit me with your suggestions - and I'll try my best to clear the list. It might be a rocky road at first (I'm not that great at understanding some mechanics of Pathfinder, mind you) - but I know that if we can work together, something beautiful will clear the way.

That being said . . . THE REQUEST LIST IS NOW OPEN! COME AND GET IT, BOYS!

  2. Ok, Rynjin and Dualjay-I've been brainstorming a homebrew campaign thingy for my friends when we go back to school-no idea if it's gonna take off and we're going to do it or what, but whatever.  It's a long, convoluted plotline that I really need to write down somewhere-it's basically gonna start off as regular pathfinder, albeit starting in Numeria, and then I'm gonna introduce stuff from the Technology Guide and Distant Worlds to make it a space sandbox-type adventure, and then probably throw in Cthulhu for shits and giggles.

Anyways, I need ideas for a few statblocks-specifically, the xenomorph from Alien (basic monster encounter), as well as Queen Mab and Harry Dresden (definitely gonna need PC levels for these two-Sorcerer for Mab, maybe Gunslinger/Wizard for Harry?).  Mid-level encounters, but enough to be fairly challenging.  Any ideas?

Numeria? I could loan you my Snatcher conversion monster, if you want - they're pretty sci-fi, and are tech enough to hypothetically function within the setting; that, and they're pretty resilient bastards. Tell me what you think.

  3. I can't replicate.

    Me either

Uh... I don't think anything's been changed on our end.

    Weird stuff be happening.

If these details help at all, please let me know:

    COMEAU'S STEPS TO GETTING A 502 ERROR

    1. Try and PM John Caveson; first, click on his name from the Recent Topics menu-thingamabobber.

    2. Either write nothing, or write a little; don't matter to the end!

    3. Press the "Use Full Editor" button. Go on. DO IT.

    4. GET BAD GATEWAY'D KID

I think (maybe) its the method of getting to his profile through the Recent Topics menu; I'll report back with an edit if I find anything.

EDIT: Member List-to-Profile got 502'd (maybe its because I searched?). After trying to repeat the steps above with Commander, I cannot open links to other parts of the board without getting offline snapshot'd. Next edit will be my further attempts.

I'm not willing to badger somebody into joining my ship

    SLICK

    hey i didn't do that

it might have seemed like i did, but only because i have the patience of a shonky doctor

actually the remark was more referring to the fact I had consistently been waiting in the recruitment thread for a third member, then you went ahead and made yer goddamned ship

if you're going to say "you had that Gunner chick that was a WIP" it was more an implication that I NEEDED a third member/gunner than a statement about me wanting to make another; I apologize for any confusion

    oic

    Still, space pirates.

Damn you and your humorous literalism. Damn it to hell.

I JUST WANTED TO MAKE A MERCENARY WARSHIP! IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR?

EDIT: Okay. Coming to the conclusion that I have an albino's chance in Yuma to get somebody on my crew, I'll be running with my idea of making a second character. Commander, if you have any complaints, please direct them to me privately. Thank you for your time.

  6. My Top 3 Decks (on Dueling Network, mind you):

    1. Naturia Lockdown (I can't remember the combo for the life of me; I think it was Naturia Mosquito with Naturia Bamboo Shoot while having some Wall of Thorns as a defense. It ended up forcing them to either quit or soak up damage till they died.)

    2. Naturias (Just simple ol' Synchro summoning; this was before XYZ monsters, which I barely played with once they came out.)

    3. Harpies (Surprisingly a gem for an archetype so outdated; denial of spells and traps worked quite well back in my day.)

  7. Am I liable to grant myself a disposable character for the purposes of actually being able to get into the story? After writing up that whole "design profile" shit you've been delaying, of course.

I'm not willing to badger somebody into joining my ship

    SLICK

; and seeing as nobody is left to recruit, I'm sort of stuck with either a) editing my ship details (I already have a lot on my plate with that), or B) not being an active party in the story at all.

The choice is fully up to you, commander; if I'm honestly being silly right now, feel free to notify me.

Additionally: Skye, I'm terribly sorry for these delays. I've been nervous about this shit altogether, and I'm going to make it up to you by stomping some fools with HARD SCI-FI OP as soon as this ship bullshit is done with.

This may or may not be a warning to you all as well; I am operating by the knowledge given and researched to/by me in regards to astrophysics, weapons engineering, and the principal rules/laws of physics. Unless proven 2OP4ME by the moderators of SiS, I hope you enjoy getting hit by railgun shells going at speeds within Mach 2-20 (if not greater; because HEY, NO AIR RESISTANCE OR GRAVITATIONAL FORCE ON THE ROUND).

Enjoy your space adventures while you can, my friends; because you're all headed in the Red.

    Sincerely,

    Comeau

  8. I want to get back into Dueling Network but I know jackshit about the new meta

You kids with yer XYZ and Pendulum shit - back in my day, we only had Fusions and Ritual Summons (don't forget Synchros)

    so fill me in

  9. Alright, might as well get this out of the way:

I think Captain Jack and I have struck up a deal.

We will start at The Scratching Post on planet Jetebel in the FSS Base of Operations system.

I think Captain Jack and I have struck up a deal.

No, but seriously; everybody's shit looks top quality, and I'll just be fixing stuff up so I'm ready to go.

  10. Where exactly is the location of Sectonia or whatever? Johann needs to start out somewhere near there, as the Docking Station had been used for the Drac-Sectonian War.

(Also, I'm sorry 'bout jacking your whole plot thingy there, John Caveson. I'm debating changing my backstory because it's not polite to do that sort of shit. If you want me to, please say so.)

  11. Name: S.R.C. Avus Dictatorem

    Basic Description

[Notes: In the image above, I have left out the opposite side of Ring #2; this is for display purposes only. However, I did make a mistake in positioning the boosters (at the time of illustration I was confused regarding the nature of the rings being halves of a torus, or merely tori) along the Rings. Forgive me for that, and read the explanation in the section on Ring #2.]

The S.R.C. Avus Dictatorem is comprised of 3 separate components; the Base (the "ship" component, which houses the central exhaust port; the Tokamak fusion power source and fuel systems; the oxygenation and waste recycling facilities; the AI rooms; navigational viewports; storage area; and ship docking port); Ring #1 (first part of the ship's micro-gravity generator, which also contains the living quarters of the ship); and Ring #2 (contains the weapon systems, and functions as the second part of the micro-gravity generator).

    Base + Ring #1

    [cspoiler]

    4UWHQwj.jpg

[Notes on the Layout of the Base: Rooms marked with vertical /s are based in the central axis of the zero-g system, and hence, have inertial force applied within them. The central section is laid out from a bird's-eye view, NOT a top-down one. Lastly, the symbols diagonally pointing to the Storage area and the piloting center are staircases.]

The Base of the S.R.C. Avus Dictatorem is what could functionally be called the "ship"; within its cradle lay the fundamental components to making the entire system function as smoothly as it does. It is cylindrically shaped (aside from its "beak" on the front), measures 6.0km in diameter, and is 12km long. Attached by struts are both Rings (these struts are detachable by mechanism, allowing the Avus Dictatorem an advantage over enemies trying to board the Rings via elevator).

The layout for the Base (as seen in the above image) houses several critical structures; the six plasma containment spheres (used for fusion power) and the Tokomak fusion power source; the navigational AI (Columba) control rooms/mainframe; the oxygenation/medical and waste/water recycling facilities; the ship's storage compartment; the ship control room; and the docking port (situated within the "beak").

Typically, this would make it an easy target for the relatively large Brig; however, the hull of the ship is made of three layers (external layer consists of 0.1km thick Titanium-Zirconium-Molybdenum; middle layer is 0.3m thick rhenium-tungsten; internal layer is 0.1km thick niobium-titanium) that ensure resistance to thermal weaponry and from shot piercing fire. In addition, a tube connecting a flamethrower-like gun element to the main exhaust nozzle allows for the use of an "exhaust cannon" in dire situations.

Ring #1 simply acts as the living quarters for the crew (layout seen in the bottom-right of the image above); like Ring #2, it is accessible by space elevators within the struts attaching the Rings to the Base. It relays the same layout of maneuvering boosters as Ring #2 (see entry).

    Centripetal Zero-G System

    cKbnGHr.jpg

The ship's artificial-gravity system is heavily based off centripetal gravity systems (it particularly resembles an externalized version of an O'Neill cynlinder's gravitational system); by rotating the two strutted rings of the ship (shaped like tori) around the Base in opposite directions, pressure is created by a center-seeking (centripetal) force upon the Base; as this force is being applied, the areas unaffected are the ones situated directly within the line of orbit; these rooms include the Tokomak fusion station (which allows for safe storage of fuel, as the inert gas cannot expand) and both AI rooms.

    Ring #2

    Spoiler

    4UWHQwj.jpg

Ring #2 is the component of the ship that holds the most bearing in the S.R.C. Avus Dictatorem's history; serving as a house to its weapons systems and its maneuvering boosters.

The weapon systems attached to Ring #2 are designed for automated and quick shots towards oncoming spacecraft and asteroids alike; they consist of four Friedrich Electric Co. Electromagnetic Railgun Cannons (mounted on a small platform which allows movement/adjustment of angle and direction on 360° axis. Shortest time taken to prepare a shot document at 2.3 seconds. Fires mechanically-loaded 4.5kg shells w/ an estimated maximum TNT equivalent of 5 kilotons), modified with motion-tracking cameras to form turrets with breakneck reaction times. As the vacuum of space lacks the inherent flaws of gravity and air particles, the Railgun Turrets are capable of providing fire that can travel from Mach 2 to Mach 20 without drag or drop. These four are positioned on the radial points of Ring #2 (top, right, left, and south).

The maneuvering boosters of the ship (located on the diagonal radial points of both rings) are medium-sized rockets linked to the fuel canisters of the Base by tubes woven through the struts and into each ring; positioned inside semi-circular grooves within the Rings, they can be pushed out by an electromechanical rod, and angled to help direct the steering of the Avus Dictatorem. The activation and strength of these rockets are automatically controlled by "Columba", the ship's navigational AI.

    History

    Spoiler

(FULL HISTORY TO BE UNVEILED AS STORY CONTINUES)

The S.R.C. Avus Dictatorem was originally developed by [REDACTED] as ransom to blackmail issued by "Adolf Beak"; its commissioner was a politician in the Core who ran against Adolf's father, Alois Freud-Schnabell. Adolf had already laid out the groundwork to the Red Plume Private Military Company, and used his father's connections to establish a large number of investors into the intergalactic mercenary corporation.

Before the onset of the Drac-Sectonian War, the ship was manually piloted and lacked the efficiency of automation. However, dedicated research and collaboration between R&D teams from both the Red Plume PMC and Sectonia 8's military resulted in the development of "Columba" and the implementation of turrets on the ship, both relieving the need for constant work by the feeble-sized crew.
