Super Saiyan, bro. Its always been complete and utter nonsense. Heck, Perfect Cell was taken out by a Super Saiyan 2 and he was billions of times stronger than Frieza. Also: Super Saiyan Goku didn't even TRY against Frieza, so a person who has had way more training as a Super Saiyan would, of course, be able to kill two people triple what Goku barely lifted a finger to beat. Either way, Frieza would have been easily killed by a Super Saiyan. Also: Frieza was so shoddily put together as a cyborg because a situation like this had never happened before. Meanwhile, Dr.Gero was a world class scientist who would have perfectly pieces together Frieza to the point where Frieza could act like the Namek arc never happened. He did so with Androids 16, 17, and 18, after all. Plus, Cell was put together from the DNA of the strongest warriors in the universe. Even if he wasn't straight up given his power, he was able to grow into the racial abilities and techniques of the people he was created from and he used that, plus his ability to convert people into strength, to get strong enough to take on the Androids and KamiPiccolo at the same time. The Buu arc was actually a change of pace. The new transformations and power levels did not help in the long run; it actually made things worse. They had to rely on actual skill and luck instead of power because Buu was such a strong fighter.

​Oh right, that is still a thing. But I wonder, since Roxy can create stuff out of nowhere with her Void powers, can she create new rings? Dunno. But Roxy still has it, so its not like it matters.

The mountains being crushed weren't the problem. The way it all shifted from "We're ninjas with magic jutsu, but we're still pretty down to earth as far as our powers go" to "We're ninjas with magic jutsu, eye powers that make no sense, and our life energy comes from a tree that was made by an extra-dimensional goddess who is also evil" was the problem.
