  1. its not the niche part that really concerns me, its the part where video games simply just don't feel like they belong in the same grouping as other sports. I never had a problem with it being streamed on TV, just with it being on ESPN.

  2. You got me there, I couldn't tell you any professional sports players names, except for soccer players. It was just a response to Caveson comparing Brady's popularity to Froggen's. Still, I hold that competitive gaming is a niche area, even to those in the gaming scene, and that its just too different from physical activities like football and soccer to be grouped in with them as a sport.

  3. Lets be honest, thats more or less what competitive gaming is: people sitting on their asses clicking and pushing buttons. The reason why you could get away with saying "I played football" and not with "I played professional League" is mainly because its just not as an impressive. Everyone knows what football is, and how physically taxing it is. Electronic entertainment does not have that luxury to it. As much as people may try to deny it, in the end, playing a video game really just involves you sitting down and pressing buttons(or clicking a mouse or whatever).

As to why ESPN had blacklash for streaming DOTA 2? I don't think its because its a "social stigma." It simply doesn't belong on ESPN. Most people who go on ESPN aren't going there to watch people play video games, they're going there to watch people play football/soccer/baseball/golf or whatever physical activity grabs their fancy. I'm shit at anologies, so forgive me, but its like if I turned to Cartoon Network, and got treated to a Japanese Slice-of-Life anime. You can argue that its technically a cartoon, but its not the sort of thing I'm going to Cartoon Network for. (But lets be fair, who really watches Cartoon Network anymore?)

I've never heard of Froggen by the way, but I think that proves a point that competitive gaming is in a really niche position. I like to play games seriously, but if you asked to name 3 professional Street Fighter players, I couldn't even give you one. Everyone (American) knows who Tom Brady is, because Football is big. Competitive gaming only really matters to very few in comparison.

I'm no good at ending essays, so let me end with a TL;DR

TL;DR: competitive gaming is too different and too niche to really be compared to with athletic sports.

  4. Have fun man. They're great games. Like Buddha I suggest release order which is also canonical/chronological order. 1>2>3>AJ>AAI1>AAI2>DD

Phoenix Wright vs Layton takes place a little bit after the third game likely. But it's not canon I think

AAI1 and AAI2 are chronologically before Apollo Justice, but they're more or less standalone after Trials and Tribulations, so it doesn't matter when you play them after that point.

  5. Adventures in Xenoverse:

The RNG was kind today. Got Super Saiyan and the item needed to advance Vegeta's training on the first try each.

Super Saiyan is incredible. All blast moves cost no energy while it's active (the transformation drains energy slowly) and get a buff. Spam big blasts, use recharge move, repeat, profit.

You know, you could just buy Super Saiyan instead of grinding for it, if you were patient enough.

  6. Alright, it's about time I did this, but I'm gonna start Fallout 3. Installed a bunch of mods (weather, texture updates and an unofficial patch), and here we go. I played once ages ago, and made it about as far as megaton. Let's see where this goes.

But, how? Megaton is right outside the vault. It's like the first hub town in the goddamn game.

I can just imagine you finishing the tutorial, walking out of the vault, looking at the big metal settlement in front of you, walking towards it, seeing the "You have discovered: Megaton" text and then saying "Well, this was a good run."

And never fucking playing for 5 years.

I never got past Megaton because I just got really bored and wanted to play something else. Maybe I'll try again some other time.

  7. Someone posted this F4 trailer analysis.

Looks like gameplay is going to be Fallout: Skyrim Edition, or at least using a similar levelup system.

    Still looks fun, though.

I hate to say this, but I think that I'm pretty much convinced that I don't want this game now, especially with the death of skills and the new crit system. Call me a Fallout purist or a stick in the mud or whatever, but this just feels wrong for a Fallout game.

  8. I have concerns about the new Fallout (namely the talking protagonist, the story they're trying to tell, and the dialogue wheel), but the house and weapon crafting looks fun.

I have no idea why they're pushing the dog so hard though.
