I think the perceived difference is that postal doesn't seem to take shit seriously. I can't say I have strong feelings either way. Seemed thematically bleh to me but I'm not one to take joy in others sources of entertainment being lost.

In the beginning I actually recommend finding something you think is thematically cool. From that relatively arbitrary beginning point you can start learning what synergises with it and it all gets easier to think about from there.

EDH is kinda-sorta official I think, what with the FNM support thing, but the official commander banlist and rules are actually not made for a comp environment. For competitive (though non-sanctioned) commander you should use the french banlist.
