  1. It's a shame, because I really want to like New Battlefront 2. It looks incredible, and more importantly it looks complete, but I knew as soon as they said "no paid DLC" they were going to find some other way to nickel and dime people out of money. Should've known it'd be P2W elements.

If there's a good thing, it's that I wasn't really planning to play it multiplayer because multiplayer sucks (especially on console), but depending on how much is locked behind "multiplayer only" like the first one I'm about to give it a hard pass.

One of my friends was bitching that Battlefront 2 was getting a 2 hour+ update and didn't know what it was. I guess he feels stupid now.

Unfortunately, it did end up breaking mods. Hopefully the mod teams are still active enough to rework. Haven't heard from any in a while (though I haven't looked for any in a while either)

Started playing Fallout 4 again so I can finally play a run with mods and the DLC (never got my old post-story save stable enough with mods, and I lost interest without them) and my experience is soured by having played before. It is so hard to replay certain things because you know how they're going to progress. It's been a year+ but I still can recognize areas and encounters - hazily at first, but then I get right back into it almost immediately upon getting to an area. Completely kills the atmosphere, which is a shame. On the topic of killing atmosphere: Bloatflies on Survival (which I still can't figure out why I'm on it, even if it's tweaked) are the worst experience I've had in a game in some time, especially at low levels. Walk outside of Sanctuary, run into a bloatfly, boom. I'm dead.

Unrelated: whoever coded the 10mm pistol mod somehow stuck it in to every lootable safe and that's just horrible (but I'm not going to not pick up loot).

  3. I'm surprised the casino industry hasn't lobbied against it. First off, it's taking business away from them (in general, like how sports fantasy leagues got hit hard). More importantly, though, lootboxes are unregulated, but everything a casino does has a ton of regulations and rules to follow.

It probably won't ever happen, though. Lawmakers will never be convinced digital gambling is something worth pursuing, and since it's not technically a win of money, it's a far more legal gray area. Then you get your slippery slope (are gatcha games lootboxes? What about games at carnivals where you win tickets for randomness?) and general apathy.

  4. The only thing I'll say at the end of the match is a "nice push/hold/job team" in teamchat, and only if it was actually a nice push/hold/job.

I've always considered "gg" (the phrase) to be disingenuous at best and downright petty at worst, but if it's a particularly close match, I'll congratulate either team. Basically, I hate that the phrase "gg" is "polite" and therefore almost required, but I use the sentiment of "gg" if it's actually deserved. Sometimes I get reeeeeeally snarky with 3 seconds left before next map, or when the offending player is gone, if it's truly a bg.

Overwatch players getting so salty over gg ez that Blizzard censored it is funny as shit though

Thing is, since everyone knows the censor pool, the sentiment of "gg ez" is still conveyed through the censor, making said censor worthless. Also, they're all so absurd because they're nonsensical self-burns, and those really don't make the one saying "gg ez" look bad, especially if he's right.

  5. Is this where part of the pressure to combat review bombs is coming from, since people are using developer practices as a reason to review a game poorly? (Well, this, and the mess that is FO4's paid mods "Content Club"?)

Steam's pushing a new graph of the "when" of reviews, which basically works like a more detailed "Recent"  and shows when reviews, both positive and negative, spike... but I'm not exactly sure how that's supposed to combat review bombs beyond showing a rough date on when the reviews began pouring in so one can investigate why there's bad reviews. It does make for some interesting data views, though.

But yeah I do miss the caber, if only because it was an asplody wepon for the asplody guy. Sure, the Skullcutter can do the same work for less, but it's not explosive ordinance.

  7. My brother, a big sports nut, convinced me, a casual-at-best observer, to fill a roster slot in his Fantasy [American] Football league. Now, the league's pretty low-key, but a good half of the players (5-6/10) are avid sports fans, and I'm not one of them (I'll watch a game if it's on, and I know how it's played, but stats and everything are way out of my expertise). That said, I've actually really enjoyed it so far, and have done decently with even my overall limited knowledge. I've always been a fan of roster simulation, even as far back as 9 years old, and this is just that with competition inherent, so it makes sense.

However, one of the major side effects I've experienced since the season started has been dreaming about football games and my fantasy football team's performance... vividly, and pretty accurately, too, at least as far as the game is played. So far, I've been on the winning side of a matchup in the dream, so it eventually dawns that it's not actually happening, but it's sticking in my head each time it happens.

but honestly the removal of DM's animations ruins it for me

I knew something felt off when I right-clicked but I couldn't figure out what. Now I can't unsee it and it's making me sad.

  9. New patch! pl_borderlandsfortress2 is a pretty fun map. Mercy is even more must-pick than ever. I keep trying to cancel D.va's boosters by firing and end up overshooting my targets, and then forgetting my missiles. Reinhardt change is a QOL fix I never thought I needed but can't believe it wasn't around before. And I kind of miss the death icons.

  10. Been playing Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and it's really enjoyable. I got a lot of mileage out of Digimon World 3 back in the day (one of my all-time favorites for the PS1), and it's really pretty much just a flashier paint job and more choices for your party. I haven't been playing much of the story mode, but I'm having more than enough fun with simply grinding and exploratory digivolving. The map's pretty linear, though, and it's an old school JRPG, too, so it's got the standard functionality of random encounters and turn-based fights: Nostalgic to a fault, in both positive and negative connotation.
