The fallout of Fallout 76 (pun intended) and Artifact subreddits were quite entertaining to watch. Found a nice summary of both discussions: F76 and Artifact The whole shitstorm made me find out that Bethesda's engine was originally purposed for multiplayer games, then refurbished for singleplayer and then poorly modded for multiplayer on Fallout 76. As if the F76 gameplay wasn't bad enough, end game content is...

As someone who witnessed EA do the exact same bullsh*t to my all time favorite franchise (Command and Conquer). I can relate to Diablo fans right now. At least EA took the video dislikes like a man and didn't try to use censorship tactics for damage control.

    Destiny General

The game uses Peer to Peer all the way, even for PvP which is infuriating. On the bright side, it is possible to play PvE with teammates with 200+ ping without any big issues. Mobs also don't scale with your party size. Thats where "Strikes" which are designed specifically as three man PvE activities come into play. You get access to them after finishing the main story. Matchmaking is enabled by default for "Strikes", or you can bring two friends if you don't want to play with randoms. Needless to say, running the vanilla story campaign with a three player fireteam makes all the missions a cakewalk.

Wow! Kinda forgot I made this thread a year ago. Fun fact: 40 GB is Vanilla content. The other 40 GB is DLC and Forsaken that you don't get to access without making a purchase Don't get me started on weapon designs, I had to put up with this thing on Destiny 1. Rather explain how TF2's Demoman's Stickybomb Launcher works than this weird looking AK. Ran through the basics and did some missions with Medic already. You can tag along with us if you feel like it. I've left a posting on SPUF's Discord as well for anyone who wants to explore the game together.

    Game Deals Announcement Thread

The servers seems to be having issues at the moment. Already claimed a copy on a different account to see what content is available or locked out just by owning the vanilla D2. EDIT: Claiming the game through the BattleNet client doesn't seem to be working. You need to check your gifts page on BNet using a web browser.

You can get Destiny 2 (vanilla only) now for free on Bnet until November 18. Anyone needs a mentor/guide you know where to find me
  7. On today's article, I'm back from the dead with a long story on what has been going on in Destiny 2 a year later. Only took them a full year make the franchise downgrade into an actual upgrade. On the bright side they really doubled down on challenging end game stuff for once, and also gave up on focusing to make the whole in-game content easy mode for casual players to enjoy. EDIT: Now anyone can grab the game for FREE on Bnet until November 18.

As far as I've read, there really is no incentive to PvP at all on Fallout 76. You will find even less players willing to PvP in a PvE focused environment. Ubisoft's "The Division" had the exact same bullsh*t mechanics on the so called "Dark Zones", PvE areas where other players could murder you to steal your loot at the cost of risking being hunted down by the whole lobby. Back when I played it years ago it was full of griefing and exploiters trying to bait you into damaging them in order to label you as a "rogue agent", and be murdered by the griefers without option to get revenge without going "rogue" intentionally. Took them a year to implement an option that allowed you to toggle PvP damage against "non-rogue" players so you could safely gun down enemy NPCs without worrying about a random player/griefer running into your gunfire intentionally or by accident. Not even gonna start describing the anti-griefing system on GtaOnline, specially since they implemented an expensive tool that serves no purpose other than harassing other players as long as you can afford microtransactions.

Looks like Bethesda's "standalone paid multiplayer mod" for Fallout 4 known as Fallout 76 now has the beta available on PC (closed to pre-orders only obviously). Ever since they announced it I was almost certain it wouldn't be a good game for Fallout fans. I wasn't expecting the beta to look this bad though. I know selling early access products with a triple A pricetag is common practice nowadays but downgrading Fallout and adding multiplayer using a decade old horribly optimized engine really makes you question if Bethesda's took feedback from their trademarked poor quality standards. The whole discussion on Deltarune makes me wonder what Undertale is all about. Only heard positive feedback from it but never checked it out personally, and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.

As someone who literally wasted 100+ hours on the "Grind Simulator (unless you buy cash cards)" known as GtaOnline, I can clarify that this major issue was hotfixed in less than a week thankfully. Thanks to a stupid lazy developer/manager, who thought it was a good idea to implement "admin" commands on a "Security update" and not worry about modders/hackers figuring out how to access them. All because there was literally no verification on if the account issuing the "admin" commands had the clearance to do so. Needless to say if someone got your IP or SocialClub ID they could issue commands into your client to kill, harass and spawn stuff in your single player session unless you blocked their inbound connection using a third party net management program, which at this point I'm pretty sure 90% of the PC playerbase knows how to do so in order to get "empty public lobbies" to mindlessly grind money without running into cheaters. The whole state of GtaOnline just further highlights why Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC will most likely be literally unplayable online with strangers. I highly doubt Rockstar will move away from P2P netcode or upgrade their anti-cheat exclusively for the PC version. Keep in mind that RDR2 online is also likely bound to be a grindy mess given TakeTwo's earnings on microtransactions. On completely different topic... The "paid version of Warframe" known as Destiny 2 is actually good now after the "Forsaken" expansion. Even though the game is still quite expensive, you don't have to buy the two lackluster expansions: "Curse of Osiris" and "Warmind" anymore for the full experience. I'm currently cooking an article for spuf.org about "Forsaken" and the current state of Destiny 2 now that I've finally beat the new Raid and experienced all the new content. On the other hand, Fortuna is almost released on Warframe and it won't have additional costs unlike D2 (season pass content available on December).

Thought I was the only one who felt that the character interactions were a little bit off on Poker Night 2, had the feeling only GlaDos and Claptrap had some sort of connection. Well... speaking of Poker Night 2... with the downfall of Telltale, turns out you cannot purchase PN2 anymore apparently. Again, thanks to The Venture Bros and Evil Dead's licences being expired. Ironically some TF2 items and Borderlands 2 unlockables were also tied to PN2 achievements as far as I can remember. The whole situation is straight up awful when you realize those developers lost their jobs without severance. No wonder what remains of Telltale will be facing a lawsuit soon enough.

So... as I was browsing Steamcharts I found out that there was a quite huge player spike on a dead game last month. It didn't take too long to find out why. With "Boss Key Productions" six feet down under, just like "Evolve", its too late for F2P. At this point, I should probably compile a list of games that were made completely unplayable lately: Paragon (servers went offline on April 27, 2018) Evolve (servers will go down on September) Super Monday Night Combat (shut down after Europe GDPR changes) Lawbreakers (servers will go down on September) Radical Heights (Boss Key's battle royale that tried to save them from bankruptcy, servers will most likely go down on September) Did I miss anything? Won't be a surprise if Bioware's Anthem also ends up joining the list as well. I'm pretty sure that EA won't keep funding dedicated servers with no revenue.

    E3 2018

Hold on... where's Square Enix? I wonder who thought it was a good idea to sell out all their trailers for Microsoft and still insist there was enough new content for a standalone press conference. I know EA set the bar really low but somehow they still manage to completely miss it. As much as I loved Devolver Digital shitposting as usual, they promised but didn't showcase one of their main IPs. Fun fact: Did you know Ubisoft showcased a new game that is going to be available on Wii... and Xbox 360? in 2018?!

    E3 2018

For those wondering if there is anything interesting still to be highlighted at E3... There is a criminally underrated game that will be showcased on Friday 15th. Hopefully the PC version is not too far away. The lack of "Borderlands 3" and "Splinter Cell" confirms that the Walmart Canada leak wasn't 100% reliable. And... apparently some people got their hands on a playable demo of Cyberpunk 2077... I'm still finding hard to believe that EA did what they did to my all time favorite childhood franchise "Command and Conquer". Witnessing John Bain's wife reaction to the announcement made me shed a tear.

Pretty much. Worst part of the story is that it wasn't even Turtle Rock Studios fault. Their risky far fetched 4v1 concept died when the publisher (2K Games) decided to slap a vague and expensive season pass on top of an already overpriced game. No wonder their product was already on life support by the end of the first launch month if I'm not mistaken.

Just found out that another game is also joining the ranks of Super Monday Night Combat and Paragon... Anyone remembers that one expensive 4v1 game from the same company that made Left 4 Dead? Turns out the servers will officially go down on September. Quite a shame really, the in-game assets and character models are extremely detailed. I highly doubt they will pull off what Epic Games did to the Paragon assets since you will still be able to play the Legacy version of Evolve. I'm not even sure how someone can get their hands on the Legacy version these days though. On the bright side, the playerbase is surprisingly not as dead as Lawbreakers thats for sure. Gonna be hard to find another game that has a playable split personality vulgar medical robot. Hope the soon to be announced "Borderlands 3" has some interesting characters.
  17. Will do Glad to see my article's approval went better than I expected. First impressions are extremely important in my dictionary. Hopefully my next write-up doesn't ends up six months in the making.
  18. Today's article a brand new writer (Spoiler: me) joined the ranks of The Daily SPUF and presented the today's perspective of Destiny 2. As of now you grab the game for $12 bucks on Humble Bundle. The only caveat is that it does NOT include any DLCs, only the vanilla product. Ohh... and you can also read Medic's thoughts on the beta if you haven't already.

Might want to check your Steam library to see if SMNC is still there as the game's Steam store page is dead already. Do let us know if you can find anyone using the game's matchmaking system.

Anyone remembers Super Monday Night Combat? You know... that old F2P game that TF2 players had to download and play only to get two hats? Turns out its gonna go six feet down under next month, just like Epic Games's Paragon whose servers went dead on 04/27/2018.

Here's something unexpected... Destiny 2 got a free trial version released today. Despite being a long time Destiny fan, I still would not recommend purchasing Destiny 2. Play Warframe instead for a more salt-free experience. Current state of the game is bad if not worse than Ubisoft's The Division at launch (at least there are no hackers roaming around). The distinctive lack of stuff to do, loot to chase after and transparent communication have been the reason why the Destiny community is covered in salt lately. Not only that, but also there has been a whole PR sh*tstorm regarding the XP gain on which you earn the cosmetic loot boxes (Jim Sterling also stepped in). The game's first expansion is also set to release next week. Unfortunately the provided content has appeared to be major disappointment so far. Oh well... given what is available on the trial version, I'd say 50% of the game is basically free now. At least new players will be able to find out the meaning behind #twotokensandablue without having to spend money. I still regret not being able to finish writing my article on spuf.org regarding Destiny 2 due to time and personal reasons. I should probably get it nicely finished by the end of December.

”The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date, only after we’ve made changes to the game. We’ll share more details as we work through this.” Best part of the PR statement. As a certain redditor pointed out, it's all part of EA's damage control plan. Their true intentions have been exposed already. Nothing can stop them from deploying P2W progression inside loot boxes a few months later after the launch week. Taking out microtransactions temporarily won't change the fact that the gameplay is a mess.

Well... the Battlefront 2 AMA happened today. The end result was pretty much expected despite the 3 developers claiming there would be "transparency". I'll just shamelessly copy the Tl:Dr rundown already written by someone so no one has to search all the downvoted replies: 13,000 comments. 9 comments responded to. 5 answers dodged. 1 really shitty AMA That's really all you need to know. Jim Sterling already compiled a nice rundown of the whole situation if you don't feel like reading. My personal highlight for this pathetic excuse of corporate speech was the Design Director admitting "star cards" don't affect the outcome of battles. Spoiler: The most powerful "star card" in Battlefront 2 is your credit card. It really is a shame because gameplaywise Battlefront 2 seems fun. The main problem is that EA went far and beyond to shove F2P mobile game business practices on DICE's work.

Guess you missed the part where the community manager straight up insulted their fanbase during the weekend. The whole Battlefront subreddit community is not forgetting it any time soon. Despite EA's damage control statement, even MORE issues are being discovered with the progression system. 75% reduced price on heroes also means reduced credit rewards. As if that wasn't enough, they went as far as sticking a f*cking mobile game cooldown timer so you can't farm credits quickly (at least on Arcade mode). Gameplay advantages related to loot boxes are far worse than having Vader and Luke locked. This way non payers can get wrecked by players who have a bigger wallet until they give in and spend money to compete. Typical EA, taking one step forward and two steps back.

    TIAM: General Gaming edition

The whole PR backlash raised even more concerns for their shareholders. EA is now on full damage control mode. Tl:Dr The price to unlock heroes was lowered by 75%. However, the game is still P2W given how loot boxes are implemented. They even scheduled a Reddit AMA on Wednesday for Battlefront 2. I'm sure everything will go well... *polishes pitchfork
