And that is how most people with strong belief feel about religion.

I googled determinism. By all I see, this is something that is still massively debated in philosophical circles, with a lot of people believing that deterministic philosophy is true to an extent, but does not preclude free will from existing. Now what I DID find was what your philosophy closely matches to is PREdeterminism, since your statement " Both your genes and the environment can be traced back to previous genes and enviroments (your grandparents gave your parents their genes and you got raised by very protective parents because one of them nearly died in a car accident or whatever) and that goes on and on and on and on until the beginning of time. " pretty well matches that philosophy's belief that "there is an unbroken chain of prior occurrences stretching back to the origin of the universe". This brings me sort of back on a ground of understanding, since you are essentially stating you're a "philosophical Calvinist™".

Lol. Fuck that. I was planning on getting one so I could get all those PS3 exclusives I hadn't played yet, but as it stands now I'll only get it if KH3 comes out.

1.) Did you just call The Incredibles "crap"? 2.) Everyone raise your hand if you haven't seen Die Hard at least twice a year since you were 5 years old. Yeah I didn't think so.

The problem I have with this is that this still assumes a LOT. It assumes that personality is affected by genes, it assumes there is no as-yet undiscovered third factor, and it assumes that just because something is subconscious, I have no control over it. You can control your own heartbeat, to an extent, you can control your breathing rate, the pace of your eyeblinks, and any number of myriad usually subconscious activities. Why would decision making be any different, especially when it relies on outside stimuli/new information being present to spark the process anyway?

It's possible, but there's no fun in arguing about compromise.

But none of that explains to me how if I am my brain (which I am), my brain deciding to go through a process of thoughts means I'm not making a decision. What you are essentially saying to me, unless I'm missing something, is that because my brain shows activity before I actually make a decision, that means I am not actually making a decision, yes? But that still doesn't make much sense because there's a hundred bajillion different things that can be going on in that time span, not least of which it could just be my brain processing what that info is and what the best course of action would be. In a nutshell, you're gonna have to break this one down for me because how you're trying to explain it doesn't make much sense. I think you're leaving out some bits. Which logical fallacy is that? The only one I see here is you using circular reasoning by "proving your point" USING your point.

Last I checked this was all just a theory. And a tenuous one at that. Just like 99.99% of psychology.

Well the thing is, I got the fire part, but what even button was that supposed to be?

All the butthurt

But I am my brain. You saying free will doesn't exist because your brain makes decisions is like saying rain doesn't exist because clouds are made of water. Not sure what your point is here. Your personality make-up is affected by all that jazz but none of it stops you from making a conscious choice to reject all that and make another decision based off what is likely to be the better course of action. Even if that were true and everyone makes decisions based on past experience (which I believe is at least partly true) and is completely confined by their upbringing and "nature" (which I don't believe is true), there is absolutely no FUNCTIONAL difference between "snowflake programming™" and actual free will.

No it doesn't. All my thoughts originate from my brain. I think you missed a class in the middle there.
