    Fallout TV Series?

Linky. Anybody seen any other information on this? Sounds like it could be interesting if it's done right.

Why does everyone rag on the Sphere Grid? It was simple as pie and made leveling its own game! I liked it.

    Fallout TV Series?

I'm still pretty sure it's going to be an animated show. And you don't have to infodump the setting all at once. Fallout 3 was my introduction to the Fallout universe and I picked it up just fine, with nothing more than a "Hey there was a big war, everything got fucked, you live underground now". Many people who watch Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV are ready for that kind of setting. Hell, Lost Girl is one of SyFy's hot new shows and it takes like the whole first season to get even a glimpse under the hood of how the Fey world works. Which is why this show would do well on something like HBO, ShoTime or yes, even SyFy: The audience is already there with you for this sort of thing. They know what they're getting into. And if it's animated? Even better. People who watch anime (Quick, someone rattle of the inner workings of the FMA or Code Geass universes. Hah.) or other animation (Justice League anyone?) are ready to be dropped in blind as well. That's why these people get the big bucks: To pick their audience.

Understand that Kayohgee has no idea how pitches work? Yes. If the person pitching has a pair that shit doesn't happen. Unless you're in a Looney Tune, it doesn't usually go down like that anyway.

So you don't like things that look good. Wut
  12. I have two pairs left, they're in the Spy Kids 3d DVD box.
  13. Well that was nice. Though not particularly funny TBH, guess I'm just not a huge Monty Python fan. Was fun watching with you guys though. Next week we need to come on and slam because Cube hasn't seen Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny together yet.

    Fallout TV Series?

Eh, whatever. Agree to disagree I guess. But the only source I have is a short FEV synopsis from the Fallout wiki, that references Brotherhood of Steel (the game) in connection with Vault 87 (which was still under construction). Linky.

    Fallout TV Series?

They could have, yes, but what I'm telling you is that I (and many many many of the game's fans) prefer that tone. Change is not bad. NV seemed chained to its predecessors TBH. It seemed like they were desperate to go "See? This is Fallout! Look, there are all those things that were there before, but in a slightly different place!" Also, yes he was, but he was still in the minority. If you talk with a bunch of the Outcasts they gripe about how the CO has lost his way and yadda yadda. If I remember correctly, it was there on the east coast because Vault-Tec had caught wind of the fact that there was an FEV virus and got hold of one of the prototype samples, but was never able to perfect it (hence why Fawkes remains the only intelligent Super Mutant in DC), but I can't remember the whole story behind it. It's scattered around terminals both in Vault 87 and in quite a few other places. Edit: Ah, it appears that is a bit of "implied canon" from Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

    Fallout TV Series?

Of course it's a subjective argument, that's what this is about. I like the slightly goofier semi-Zeerust tone of FO3 over the original's more serious tone (but just as far out tech), but you do not. Look at just NV and FO3 for a moment: FO3 is an interesting character study sort of thing, but many of the missions are goofy and spoof old 50's Sci-Fi B-movies (the mission in Arefu and the one with the Ant-Agonizer and Mechanist being prime examples). It had a goofy tone, but serious material. NV on the other hand is much more grounded, and while it also digs deep into that "nobody's perfect" thing and is an interesting character piece, goofy it is not. The only thing goofy about it is how retro the future tech is, otherwise it's very serious in both tone and content, much like the original 2 (though I actually never played Fallout 2, only the first was free for download). Both are good. I prefer the first both in tone and in presentation of the lore. Let's face it, for better or worse things HAD to be changed, it's pretty much impossible to keep all that in order without severely limiting what you can do unless you were the one who made it. Look at Brandon Sanderson taking over the Wheel of Time after Robert Jordan's death. Sanderson is a brilliant writer (one of my favorite "new" fantasy authors), but he still couldn't keep all the lore in order, even with all the books and Jordan's notes and outlines to follow. He tried his hardest and took a whole year and half (or was it two?) to study everything before he started writing and there are still minor inconsistencies. Also, "That one rogue guy and his buddies" amounted to like 3/4 of the Outcasts present.

But they still weren't even. The BoS were still kind of dicks, tehy just had the people in mind more than teh tech. I don't see taht as a bad thing for a group of BoS who are shunned by the other Brothers for being too goody-goody. No I didn't. But the NCR are dicks too. Wait what? The only slave collar/Brotherhood connection I ever had was in Dead Money. I was never enslaved by the Brotherhood before, it was either "Shoot on sight" and then I killed a bunch of people and they never gave me quests or "Veronica let me in". Which is what the Outcasts were about. Did you player Operation:Anchorage? You go through the simulation, finish everything, and then open the store room full of tech for them. Then they open fire o you and the...3 people or so on your side. No, it wasn't a detriment. FO3 found that perfect balance between goofy and serious. Goofy tone, serious setting and events. New VEgas was just eh. It was better mechanically (but with even MORE bugs) but had a lot less soul than FO3 did. Rule of cool =/= 2cool4school, you're mixing metaphors here. And goofy is not bad. Borderlands is goofy all the time, and I love it for that, but it's not nearly the same. FO3's tone can shift in a heartbeat, and is more a goofiness built on anachronisms than actual jokes and pop culture references. FO3 was 50's Sci-Fi in a nutshell, which is what made it amazing, whereas the original Fallout and NV were more grounded in reality, which made things like Super Mutants and Geckos all the more out of place. It's hard to explain. I'm confused on whether we agree or disagree or what. And I'm saying I'm optimistic about it. Bethesda has never let me down before, either in anything they've made themselves or published (yes, even Brink and Rage had their great points). I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they can recapture that feeling in this show (which may or may not be animated, since Three-Dog's voice actor will be in it).

    Fallout TV Series?

They explain this if you read enough logs and stuff but I'm too lazy to find them again. You'll note that the BoS in Fallout 3 that were "White Knights" were actually a splinter group, i.e. they're going against orders, and many of the men aren't happy about it (hence the Outcast sect). The Enclave weren't really explained though. ...But the Outcasts were even bigger dicks than the NV Brotherhood. At least the NV Brotherhood didn't try to fuck you up immediately after you helped them out so they didn't have to share. Semi-serious to goofy zeerust: Change for the better. I disliked NV's atmosphere because it removed most of that. 2cool4school: Lolwut When have they tried to make an actual TV series that was actually based on the source material and not just the brand name? Remember, Bethesda is buying this trademark for the post-apocalyptic TV series, they're gonna be involved in the makings of it. I totally should've brought this up last night when you wanted an argument had I known you were a "Old Fallout is best Fallout" proponent.

    Fallout TV Series?

The plots of Fallout 1 and 2 still weren't that good though. I've never been a person who goes "Stick to the source material or die! No improvements and no changes, I don't care if it had flaws!". Also I'm not sure how it was a "perversion" in the first place.

    Fallout TV Series?

Well, the STORY has always focused on morals and ethics, but there were a helluva lot of guns and explosions in every playthrough I had of the games. The two aren't mutually exclusive. The only thing that Fallout would really lose in the TV series is that sense of "You are the protagonist" that Fallout has, but that can easily be rectified by making it focus on a group of characters instead of a single person. Either that or they're re-doing the plot of Fallout 3, which they couldn't possibly fuck up anyway. And hopefully Liam Neeson will be in it in person.

    Fallout TV Series?

It's pretty hard to ruin the feel and theme of Fallout. To be fair, it's (by this point with all the clones it's spawned) pretty generic as far as post-apocalyptic worlds goes. It's got a fairly extensive backstory, but much of that need not apply so long as it focuses on some place the games haven't been yet. Like, what the fuck is going on in Canada? Or Europe or Asia or South America? I'd be very interested in watching one set in those places or somewhere in the US that isn't embroiled in everything that's going on.

    Fallout TV Series?

Care to explain why? It could be done very well, since the Fallout universe is pretty much just a big pile of un-utilized ideas.
  24. I quite liked that video, yes.
