Actually no, the hard part is the battery. You can already accelerate a hunk of metal to bullet speed without melting the rails. Problem is, it's bulky and needs to be wheeled around like an old-style cannon, which just doesn't cut it. You can't get the (currently fictional) light speed gun, but a working railgun is more than possible right now.

Yes. They require a pretty bigass generator right now (there's a land based prototype now if I recall, basically a bigass cannon), but it's a doable technology. I also like the laser bomb disposal thing (vehicle mounted).
