Well, err, Arakawa was on board with it.She told the people who were making the original anime FROM THE START that they were on their own. Huh. I would actually go so far as to say the original is the superior show (though both are good), in my opinion. Regardless of its complete departure from the manga, it seemed to shed a lot of the stereotypical anime tropes and kind of carved its own uniqueness out.
