The main difference between Luffy and say, Naruto is that Luffy KNOWS he's a dumbass, and as such seeks out people who will curb his more destructive dumbass tendencies. He knows when something is serious, but more often than not they're there to have fun (which is the case for the majority of the first arc...he's literally just having fun sailing around and gathering a "pirate" crew who never do any piracy, and in fact includes a PIRATE HUNTER as its first mate. Because logic.). Basically, it makes sense for him to be energetic and lighthearted because that's what the manga is about in broad strokes: A bunch of friends traveling around doing stuff (that occasionally gets serious when they end up wandering into event on the larger world stage). doesn't look like utter thrash To not completely make this post a kick in the balls I do have to add that One Piece seems to be the shounen of the three that takes itself the least serious which is definitely a plus, and as I said I only watched half an episode so maybe it becomes this generation's Othello the very next episode So what exactly is trash about it? It's just a more cartoonish take on the standard Shonen art style. Granted the ANIMATION there is kinda wonky because it's a scene where there's nothing going on but her screaming and a bunch of cannon fodder swinging swords at each other, but that doesn't have anything to do with the art style.

One Piece is the shit. It's like the inverse of the other two. Bleach: Started off great, quickly descended into shit. Naruto: Started off good, got better, gt worse, got better, got a lot worse, got better, got worse again, got better, and finally ended on a firmly "meh" note. One Piece: Started off meh, hit AWESOME after a while, and never looked back.

This makes me very, very sad. I knew it was only a matter of time, but still.
