Ooh, that reminds me I still want to grab Battlemage. Is it something you'd recommend? It's pretty fun. I'm not very far into it, but it seems like the real meat of the game comes in a bit later, when you start getting a whole lot of spell components so you can craft new spells. As-is I'm just smacking people with a Flamestrike repeatedly since my Ice sucks too hard to make a good debuff, and the basic Kinesis lob attack seems incapable of hitting anything. I TAKE IT BACK. Kinesis does no damage, but applies a 100% (at a base level, it increases with better spells) damage debuff. Combined with the fact that you auto-crit on a charged shot, and a good Fire spell with Critical Effect increased, and now you're cookin' with gas.

Ah. I just got the hankering to play Minecraft and I remembered he'd mentioned trying to get a new one started. Ah well. I can wait a week. =)

So what happened to this?

Magical girl shows make me feel bad just in concept. They push the age range just a liiiitle too far for me to be comfortable with. At least 10 for putting your child in constant and intense danger. 13+ preferably. Not 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9. Just a petty gripe about a genre I'm 0% familiar with

So who else thinks Dan and Barry Grumps would be the best as a permanent thing?

I'm waiting for Christmas because it's more Christmas-y that way. That and the Winter Sale so maybe I can get a better gift for within the price range. If there IS a Winter Sale and Volvo's just teasing us instead of doing the stupid auction thingy in place of it.

I've never liked watching tournament level fighting game players. Generally all the matches come down to blocking and using the fastest/highest priority move you can execute and whittling people down little by little. Mid-skill players are more fun to watch (and play against) since at that level people are skilled enough to execute all the moves, and move efficiently and whatnot, but not skilled enough (or invested in winning enough) to make moves with more than half a frame of wind-up worthless.

This is the Random Image Thread. Productivity is off-topic! Seriously though is anyone actually mad here? I just figured it was out usual comedic overreaction to things, and stuff. -

IMO Grump quality comes in waves. They get stuck in a rut for a while and the comedy is atrocious, then they get funny again, then they hit another trough and the cycle begins again. They do better when they play weird games nobody's ever heard of, and ones that have some sort of comedic value in and of themselves. Playing most modern games they just look like tools, since Arin can't play them, so the comedy falls flat because most of it stems from "Hurr durr this game sucks look at how bad it is oh wait shit I messed up my bad". Likewise when they play games that are just bad, not laughably bad, they try to play it up way too much. Sonic Boom is the most recent example. The game is obviously bad, but it's not a funny bad. It's just kind of a "This is really bland and uninspired but I guess I could tolerate it" type of game. If they're going to rip on a bad game it needs to be a so-bad-it's-good or truly terrible kind of game. Sonic Boom is maybe a 6/10, and mediocre just isn't funny. Shit like Sonic '06 was good because Sonic '06 was barely PLAYABLE, and the game just provided its own comedy fro them to play off of. Likewise one of their better episodes recently was that Lester the Unlikely one, because it was so odd and strangely difficult just watching the game was funny. It's not really the formula that's stale, it's that they're picking games that don't provide much comedic value on their own, so they fall back on their default filler talk which is DEFINITELY stale. Half the time it's like they've hit play on a pre-recorded message about Arin saying something about fucking Dan in the ass and Dan being like "Arin, stahp."

Not everyone involved in it is awful. Just Arin.

There's very little truly interesting that happens in it. The entire movie basically hinges on this borderline edgy dry humor that I just didn't find very funny, nor did I find the film's "message" very meaningful. It seems like it tried way too hard to be one of those quirky "deep" indie movies with offbeat humor and combined the worst aspects of both. Granted this is based on my fuzzy recollection of seeing the movie in art class in like 9th grade, but I clearly remember not enjoying the movie in the slightest.
