Technically neo-Nazis. Which actually exist in alarming (read: any) numbers IRL all over the world.

The Official Random Image Thread!! SPUF style

Looks like the party probably has plenty of fried chicken at least.

    I got banned on SPUF...?

Cmdr and Binry changed it to upboats and likes because rep was too cool for them (Aka clickety the little green up arrow.)

    I got banned on SPUF...?

Wait wait, how did you know? Is there something I should know? Just that he's a fucking prick, and likes to fill his infraction/ban "quota" with shit like this.

    I got banned on SPUF...?

Welcome to the batcave, I'm looking forward to seeing your 5 posts before you disappear. On the off chance you stick around past the weirdness and bit-too-close-knit-ness, welcome again. Wait wait, don't tell me: It was RotNDude.

    Smache Brothers

I join the call for Ganondorf. If they differentiate him, cool, but he needs to retain the "Warlock Punch" or whatever. Just the look on somebody's face when they're trapped and can't move, as the fist moves at the speed of a snail struggling through setting glue towards their body. And they know they're completely fucked. Orgasmic.

    Video Games as a Medium

A trap a lot of gamers and aspiring designers/developers fall into is assuming their medium is Special as compared to already extant ones, like movies and books. Which is where you get stuff like "Defining what it is stifles my creativity!". All artists and fans of a medium do it to a certain extent, but with video games still being the "new kid" basically, gamer culture feels like it has something to prove, and want to throw off the "limitations" of being defined as a medium. Because if it's defined, it can be labeled, and if it can be labeled, the labels could be bad. At least that's my dimestore psychological analysis of why stuff like Extra Credits is so widely listened to even though they're largely full of shit with the occasional nugget of pure gold. Incoming Raz to tell me how full of shit I am? =p

    TF2 general

Wait does the Diamondback now give crits for backstabs? I had a fleeting thought that maybe I should play TF2 again to try it out but it passed just as quickly.

    GOTY 2013

Hold up a sec. "Book can't do action sequences well, movies can't do long dialogues"? I'ma need an explanation for that one because both are very capable of doing either. Books and movies have it easy, their only criteria for being good is that they entertain, with no other restrictions. Dialogue can be fun in both mediums (as long as it's interesting) and action scenes likewise.

    GOTY 2013

I don't think it is, much like I don't think "Black spatters on white paper" or whatever the fuck you want to call it isn't art. I can stare at a piano for several minutes as well. It doesn't make me a master musician, you feel me? There's a big difference between minimalist design in a game, and "A video you have to hold down the play button for". Pong is a minimalistic game. A game where you literally hold down a single button and walk until you reach the end is not. I have seen many, very conflicting definitions of a game in my studies, but the one that has stuck with me the most is from a handout I can't find. I'll repeat the gist of it here. For a game to be a game, it must have or be three things: -It must be a play activity -It must have rules -It must have a conflict Play has an inherent context of interactivity, choice, whatever you want to call it. Tag is a game. It has choice, interactivity, it has specific rules, and it has a conflict. Games like Dear Esther, if they are a game, are only games in a very technical sense. They are games in the "letter of the law", but not the spirit of it in the slightest. Some of Nils Petersson's stuff are ones I can find. This kinda sums up what I'm trying to say: "Our game must have enough rules to limit the player's actions while still allowing for a learning process. As such we cannot simple create rules that are so strict that the player will always act in the exact same manner." Absolute linearity is the death of a game. Dear Esther may be art. I won't pass judgement on that aspect. But, to me, it fails to be a game.

I just realized I pretty much stopped posting in this thread entirely after Jaydor came here. Protip: Belittling other people's taste in media when it doesn't fall in lockstep with yours makes you look like a fucking douchebag.

    GOTY 2013

Why do people like games like that? Serious question. We've had to play a number of games like that for classes and every time my essay on it boils down to "Holding the right arrow key and seeing random shit is not a game" and every time I get docked points for saying so so I must be doing something wrong.

Haven't played Gone Home but if what Huff says is true and it's like Dear Esther I'll quote a buddy of mine on that:

Been meaning to bring this up for a while now, why can't we label quotes? As in [.quote=Name Here]Wordswordswords[./quote] Comes out as:

    GOTY 2013

Borderlands 2, Infinite, and GTA V were all winners. And since they're the only 3 new games I've played, we'll go with them.

    REFERENDUM: The Future of SPUFpowered

I like this site because of the fact that it is the way it is now. The SPUFServer and other projects are largely irrelevant to most of the members here. Nobody will feel slighted if the day to day workings of that are moved elsewhere. Allowing anyone and everyone to join basically shatters what this has become, a private forum for a large group of friends or near-friends, where we can talk about whatever we please with a minimum of moderation, and I see no reason to do so. If you and others feel the site needs to grow, then fine, but it should really be done as it has been, people invited specifically by members of the forum (and preferably only ones who have been active at least 6 months or more). Anything else will basically ruin this place. As much as we may poke fun at it nowadays, let us not forget the horror and headache of the Pootis Poster Invasion.

Best episode. 5ever. Nothing can top that. 10/10 would join the D-Club.

Yeah, I can acknowledge that NGE revitalized anime. Of course it did that by making people realize how horrible it was and spawning a whole bunch of new shit to wash the taste out of their mouth, but still.

    Steam Holiday Sale 2013

I was in the bank shutting down my bank account when the sale came up. Welp.
  24. If you're going to play any one Spyro, play Year of the Dragon (the third game). If you're going to play any one Jak and Daxter, play Jak 2 (Jak 3 is better but unlike the first plot elements from the second are important for the sequel. The only thing important from the first game to the second is introducing the characters and what happens in the super special video you get for 100%-ing the game).
