The game doesn't get the blame (unusually for these scenarios), though the instigator was, in an indirect way, Call of Duty. The focus of that article DID seem like it was more on "This kid was fucked up in the head" and "He snapped when his mom grounded him" than "Games kill people".

So I officially LOVE this character now. At first I was like "Yeah, he can incapacitate people easy as pie, but he doesn't deal much damage really and he's so SQUISHY". But then I pretty much maxed out Combat and Survival trees. So now, in addition to punting people across the room with either my sprinting turbo kick or my "To the moon!" uppercut, I deal bleeding damage on punches and apparently my uppercuts electrocute people (it doesn't say it in the skill...but sometimes it happens. And I wasn't using a Shock weapon when it started.) As well, he still dies pretty quick, but he gets glorious, GLORIOUS lifesteal. 3% flat chance to restore up to 30(?) percent health on ANY hit, and restores 15% HP on every critical (which this game hands out like candy). So I'm puntin' bitches across the room and now when I start getting wailed on by a group I can wail right back, restoring 15% HP every 3 hits at least and the small chance for more from any given hit. And he now does good damage too.

I won't lie, the sprinting kick that sends people flying and the uppercut that does the same IS in there. And his Fury makes him move up to 99% faster than normal and do all other kinds of stuff. I haven't upgraded Fury yet though.

Dead Island: Riptide is pretty good. The new character is a combo of everything I loved about Sam B in the first game and some new stuff that basically makes him be Sam B's Fury all the time. Which is one thing that's kinda retarded. Sam B fights with heavy Blunt weapons, and his Fury is to just punch people with special brass knuckles. The new Guy (John Morgan) is based around brass knuckles and unarmed attacks, but his Fury has him PULL OUT A BO STAFF.

I've seen a few of 'em. I also remember she was on something else I was watching I think. Oh! That's right. She was Tiny Tina in Borderlands 2.

So a game that is designed to say "Fuck you!" to the player didn't sell well? Shocking. Truly unexpected.

I actually thought Dead Island was really fun. ONLY in co-op though, it's pretty meh by yourself for sure.

A game should always be a game first, but games as an art form require a coherent story to be told, whether explicitly or implicitly. Games as entertainment can get by with just fun mechanics and an addicting game style. Games like Angry Birds are entertainment. Games as art need fun mechanics and an addicting game style, but they also need a sharp narrative just like a movie, formatted to fit well within the confines of the medium. No, "15 minute cutscene every half hour of gameplay" is not the way to do it. Games like Journey (implicit story, from what I hear), or Bioshock are examples of these.

People, rejoice! Well people besides me because I don't really care one way or the other about these franchises. But I know Scags at least is happy about Supreme Commander and a lot of you guys love Darksiders.
