  1. Slowly but surely I'm powering down Victory Road.

The only reason it's taking so long is that I don't want my Leafeon to get fucking destroyed so I'm leveling him up a little bit on the way

    D/P or Platinum?

  2. Speaking of weird setups, is it a decent idea to put as much attack and defense as possible in a Hardy 31 Att&Def IV Lucario?

It'd probably be a better idea to get an Adamant/Jolly Lucario.

  3.

So I chain fished a shiny Magikarp.

Timid. Fucking hell, game, I want something I can use.

Special Gyarados Sweeper. Noone will see it coming

In 4th gen comp a friend of mine had a Special Sweeping Dugtrio. Revenge killed something with Earthquake and then wrecked whatever physical wall switched in on it. It was actually kind of genius

With its overwhelming base 50 SPA?

  4. time to return the discussion to pokemon

    someone explain IVs to me

I gave this explanation to batty awhile ago, and it works.

IV's stand for Individual Values. Individual values are different in every Pokemon. Each stat has an IV(HP ATK DEF SPA SPD SPE). In each stat, you can have a minimum of 0 IVs and a max of 31 IVs in each stat. This means a Pokemon can have a total of 186 IVs(assuming 31 in each stat).

IV's are important, because they affect stats. As you may assume, a Pokemon with lower IV's will have lower stats than a Pokemon with high IVs. Here's an example. Take Salamence A, he has 4 HP/252 ATK/252 SPE EVs and a Jolly Nature(+Speed - Special Attack), but has 0 IV's in all stats. Let's look at Salamence B, he has the same EV spread and nature, but 31 IV's in all stats. At level 100, here are what their final stats would be(in order of HP/ATK/DEF/SPA/SPD/SPE)

    Salamence A

    301/338/165/202/165/294

    Salamence B

    332/369/196/230/196/328.

See the difference? It's noticeable, especially in speed and HP.

IV's also determine what Hidden Power type that Pokemon has and how much power it has. A Pokemon with 31 IVs in all stats has a Hidden Power Dark Type and and a Base power of 70.

Do you need 31 IV's in all stats? No, for a Pokemon like Blissey, which doesn't attack at all, it would only need high IVs in HP/DEF/SPD.

Does it help to have high IVs? Yes, it does, but keep in mind it's not downright impossible without them, as I had already gotten 4/7 gold medals before I started to RNG abuse.

How can you find out your IVs, you may ask? It's easy, go to here and plug in the Pokemon's stats, level, nature and EVs. For the record, a Pokemon that was just caught or hatched has EV's of 0. Also, you can't really get a good idea of what the Pokemon's IV's are until it's above level 35, so if it's below that, pump rare candies into it.

That's really all there is to it, I think. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

(If you don't know what EV's are, here's a guide that can help)

  5.

So wait what's the current tourney standing?

You, Unromantic and Veez have all won their matches. We are currently waiting on Sir Slick and Jordax to finish.

Biggest problem is the large gap in timezones, we both live on the other side of the world for one another.

Hmm, have you guys tried working out a time frame? Maybe this weekend you guys can work something out?

  6. Indeed. I sent you a friend request on Steam so hopefully we can find a time where both you and I are online so we can have our round in the Inaugural subSPUF Forum Overused Tier Pokemon Showdown Online Pokemon Battle Simulator Tournament. Is there a way we can make that name longer? Is there?

We can just call it the "Cell Games"

  7. Also sorry for the double post but can we do like a best of 3 for each round? Because one round can be decided by one random crit or something like that and to be knocked out like that wouldn't be fair (this is coming from a guy who normally wins via these random crits that shift battles)

    Yes, it's best 2/3.

I probably should have mentioned that before.

  8. We've been at 12 for a while now, haven't we? Maybe we should just go. The RNG could determine the four of us that get the first round off.

Tch, yeah, looks like we'll have to do that.

    9:Jordax

    10:Unromantic XYTWO

    11:Veez

    12:FreshHalibut

The first 4 numbers I draw from random.org will be the players who get the first round off. Those are..

4, 7, 6 and 5. Huh, yeah. So Discordant, Huff, Binary and Batty all get the first round off.

With that said, here are the people who battle for the first round.

    Jordax VS Sir Slick

    Veez VS FreshHalibut

    Cell VS Simon

    Unromantic XYTWO VS Doopliss2008

  9. OU gets my vote but I'm probably late to the voting party.

    Nah.

    Ubers-1

    OU-7

    Little Cup-0

    Monotype-0

With that said, we still need four more people, unless everyone would like to start earlier with just 12.
