They're handy for telling if your gun deals 40 damage or 39.5 damage. Both display as 40 damage in the stats screen, but guess which won't one-shot green cops?
-
They're hidden as debug commands. You have to use some lua scripting to activate them.

Hoxhud lets you restart on pro heists and start the game without waiting for people to ready up >n-not cheating >i-it's just q-quality of l-life

Wait, you guys keep track? ... at least I finally have the highest score at something. We tried to stealth day 3 of Firestarter six times. SIX TIMES

Mine should be 1.5 because Guy startled me that one time.

The Official Random Image Thread!! SPUF style
<Witty Name> replied to [TRS]Janobi's topic in General Discussion
If I'm correct then all things on computers are done using algorithms. Spoiler So it can't be really random CAN it? Spoiler This is where you all call me a retard and say "Yes it can Paero fuck off you're a retard" You're correct, actually. It's pseudorandom. Random number generators use a small set of random data to make a bigger set of random data. You lose some randomness in the process, though. -

You're kind of grasping at straws here. I sincerely doubt he was operating some kind of Illuminati-esque conspiracy. I think he was trying to convey that the entire scheme was a joke, but it just wasn't working. I know my homework situation is getting bad (CS exam, math homework, organic pre-lecture), but wasting time on Imgur isn't a sinister motive; it's just an error on my part.

Hiding the ruler shouldn't let you write off the page. That might be caused by negative indentation- that's somewhere in the File menu, I think. I'm on Word 2013, so I can't check at the moment.

The mere proposition that the semblance of a notion exists that excessive usage of detailed vocabulary for the purpose of garnering reputation points is occurring is simply ridiculous, as judicious use of intensifiers along with a grand focus on terseness is the defining quality of my preferred method of expressing thoughts.

In hindsight we probably should have caught on much more quickly. I think this could have worked if it weren't for the delay, although the other forums probably could have been a bit sillier- the Reddit clone was downright insanity!

The problem is that your initial post was pretty silly- "proven software basis" is such a ridiculous term that I figured it had to be a joke. However, this reply... ...suggested else-wise. You made no effort to indicate that I wasn't just spamming in a serious thread. That, along with the majority of people who didn't figure it was a joke in the first place, is what convinced me you really were serious.

You are not at all innocent in that regard, Commander. Several of us recognized this as parody, but we abandoned our views when your straight-faced denials of such continued without end. If your audience does not recognize your ruse, then you have failed to tell a joke.

Idiot Cube's post sums up my response to this quite nicely.

I don't really know whether I'm royally pissed off or just apathetic at the moment. The announcement was such an extreme distortion of what you'd normally see from Commander that I couldn't take it seriously whatsoever. Things went south when he started to refute these claims without the slightest hint of satire. Once everyone was truly taking it seriously, we took all of the insanity that ensued as nothing more than the symptoms of a disastrous plan. The multiple-sites trick was interesting, but we hardly heeded your requests to try posting on the forums because we assumed it was just more of the same disinterested corporate drivel. I thought I was looking at a Discourse board; it was really a NodeBB board. When I asked Commander why it was showing a NodeBB copyright, he offered nothing in the way of an explanation. To be fair, I should have caught on at that point. So here we are, unable to even half-heartedly laugh at the utter farce that this whole event was. Commander, you don't understand what a joke is. A joke does not spawn eleven pages of disbelief and anger. You should've pulled the plug on day one- or done something that was actually comedic. Your corporate jargon was atrocious yet still insufficient to convey that it truly was satire. I do believe that Rynjin's complaints have some merit, although people are saying we didn't Commander seriously at first blush- it was only after he kept up the straight-faced act that we figured he really was serious. That's a problem insofar as we were willing to believe he'd do something so ridiculous, but at least we didn't fall for it instantly. ...or did we? Looking back at the first few pages, DualJay was the first to really call the whole Next thing out as a joke. I was the second. Expresate also brought it up. And, well, things broke down from there. This is a problem, Commander. You've grown detached from the community and gained a sour reputation- a common complaint among people I've talked with. I don't see you around the forums all that much, and when you do show up it seems that controversy is quick to follow. Your public warning of Guy was particularly egregious. So no, I'm not going to laugh at you. I'm not going to curse you out, either, despite my initial urge to do so (Huff can attest). I'm just going to wait and see what happens.

I finished The Bridge today. Dear lord can it be a mind-screw. The puzzles can involve gravity pointing in three directions whilst you try to invert yourself into the right color state to use a door whilst balancing a sphere on a switch. The game is essentially a graph problem, which makes sense given the protagonist (a mathematician of some sort). Quite enjoyable, although I wish it had more levels- 24 followed by 24 with significantly tougher puzzles took four hours or so to clear. old post but what chem?

The longer they wait the harder this will be to deal with.

That's always been a big frustration of mine. Upvote/downvote systems tend to promote hivemind behavior- instead of uplifting good content and hiding bad content, it highlights content that people like and destroys contents that people dislike. There's a big difference. Purely upvote-based systems suffer similarly, but unpopular ideas aren't smashed into the ground quite as forcefully. Of course, there's always the option of simply not sorting things at all, like our current system does. It's the simplest and generally prevents content from being annihilated simply because it's unpopular. It does have the effect of increasing the amount of information that has to be sifted through, but I don't really think that's an issue for us.
-
Of course there's always some reason to progress- I don't think we'd enjoy using one of those particularly ancient boards where every post exists on its own page and quotes are denoted by increasingly dense forests of angle brackets. The issue is that a significant portion of user experience (UX) stems from familiarity. Take YouTube- it's infamous for its layout changes. They weren't horrifying, but every change means that people have to learn a new scheme with a new look. Familiar processes become alien, making the site less user-friendly. A standard linear forum is highly intuitive- everything is organized top to bottom. Adding in additional dimensions and layers is disorienting for those who are experienced with the older system. So, if the main reason for the shift is a more "modern" UX, then it needs to be a mighty impressive improvement. I'm not feeling it at the moment, but perhaps that will change with time.
-
It's somewhat unfair to shoot down a new idea because it's not what we already have; the same logic leads to a complete rejection of progress. However, I do think that, under the veneer of "modern-ness" that the new forum offers, it's essentially the same thing with a few extra features tacked on. Changing formats is a big jolt for people, and doing so without significant benefits is inadvisable.

I think most of the negative response here (including my own) stemmed from the utter lack of communication or preparation. The admins weren't ready, the mods weren't even aware of it, and we were given nothing but a series of buzzwords and reassurances that everything would be okay. Were the OP to simply announce "we'll be using Discourse", I think we'd have saved ourselves a lot of trouble.
