The Official Random Image Thread!! SPUF style

One of the CS professors has that article taped to his door -
Not quite. Uninstall this terrible game Deep-fry your hard drive and throw it into a blender
-
It's definitely not a WHAM ending or anything- it's just clever. I liked how it taught you what you needed to solve the last little puzzle without making it too obvious.
-
I finished Antichamber today. The ending was quite curious.
-
I also use lynx, a text-only browser that runs in a Linux shell. Clearly the best.
-
I need to check out Chromium.
-
Just make it so weird that they'll feel uncomfortable bringing it up
-
Chrome, but I wouldn't mind Firefox. Everyone else is basically hitler.
-
I picked up Antichamber again last night. It's a lovely little game with relaxing ambiance and interesting puzzles. The insane level geometry takes a bit of time to get used to, though.

That alone is reasonable, but I am deeply amused by how "our thoughts are powerful enough to bring things into existence" -

WHY YES SIR 100% TRUE YUP -
"Beneficial" Not particularly. Making it impossible for people to talk about your content is like opening fire on your foot with a high-calibre machine gun. It perplexes me as to why it goes on regardless.

Make sure to have lots of wacky scared faces for maximum spookiness Example: [zombie appears] [microphone instantly blows out due to the volume of your screaming]

jesus christ, I just played a powerful example of how to fail miserably at game design Welcome to the "Moon" level in CoD: Black Ops' zombie mode! You start out in a level where an nigh-undefeatable wave of zombies spawn after 20 seconds. You're supposed to get on a teleporter to take you to the moon, but this is never indicated. The level has a number of high-cost items that imply you'll be staying for some time, and the teleporter doesn't even have any kind of prompt to tell you it's working! You just have to work out that standing on it makes you go to the moon, despite the fact that nothing tells you this. After every stands on it for several seconds, you wind up on the moon and then almost immediately die of suffocation. You're supposed to pick up and use a spacesuit, but it's hard to find the brown items among the rest of the uninspired brown level. If you turn to look around- which is natural, since you just entered a new area- you'll get lost and die. Worse still, if you die (after failing to jump over a fence that you can easily clear in low-gravity because of invisible walls, no less), you respawn without a spacesuit nowhere near the place you got the spacesuit from. You have to try to find one (and fail, since the zombies immediately begin spawning). This, combined with the fact that your vertical momentum is equal to that of a feather (meaning even clipping a zombie mid-air stops you dead), makes for a very, very frustrating map that is a perfect demonstration of what NOT to do when designing a game.

Locked and Loaded: In Which Where We Post About Firearms
<Witty Name> replied to Arm the Homeless's topic in General Discussion
Has anyone ever tried taping a mosin nagant, a kar98k, a lee enfield, and a springfield together to summon Captain Planet Firearms? -

The files themselves are probably fine, unless you managed to demolish the master file table (which contains all the index values of the drive's files). If THAT'S the case, then you'll want to go to a professional data recovery company.
-
You almost certainly damaged the boot sector of your hard drive when you jolted the machine. You should be able to recover the files pretty easily, although it also might be possible to simply fix it. I'm not an expert on that subject, though. Try live-booting into Linux with a CD or flash drive. Do you use the GRUB bootloader?

Port forwarding takes less than three minutes, varying slightly depending on your router. The general procedure is: 1) Determine the local IP address of your computer 2) Determine the ports you need available 3) Set your router to send traffic on those ports to your machine 4) Make sure that your firewall is allowing those ports through. If you'd like me to elaborate, I can do so.

Doctor Robinson: The Character Development Thread
<Witty Name> replied to Mersopolis's topic in The Drawing Board
I almost immediately thought of Repo! The Genetic Opera for some reason after seeing the lyrics. It's got some pretty good songs Anyways, he feels like a bit of an obsessed man to me. He doesn't explain why he wants a body, he just does. Perhaps he could have a bit of a nervous tic as a result? I'll give the rewrite a look after I get out of class in an hour. -
It's a brilliant little piece of software. I've used it for years.

I don't know any of the teams. Go people, rah, rah. I really oughta' figure the competitive scene out.
