To Buy or Not to Buy?

Everything in the Steam Sale for today is worth picking up. Well, except Arkham City because it is a terrible PC port that I haven't got working since release day. Get that for a console. The others? Yeah, get those.

To Buy or Not to Buy?

Borderlands 2 is 50% off. Buy or don't buy? Please note that I found the original game to be a very genuine example of the Run Around A Barren Wasteland And Doing Lots of Boring MMO Fetch Quests genre. Before recommending, please ask yourself if the sequel has reeeeally fixed those problems, because I've heard lots of mixed results. Also take into account that I can withstand memetic humor, which was apparently the rage button for many people, which seems very silly to me.

    subSPUF Weekend In-House

I can start one, being the Lord Regent of SPUFDOTA. We'll discuss what we want when we're in the lobby, based on what people want (some people hate Captain's Mode, some people love it, etc).

    Japanese shows!

I'm very much accustomed to western animation more than its eastern friend. You ask me for the best western cartoons from 2000 onwards, I've got that covered. But anime has a different culture, different conventions, different audiences and different rules. It's aimed at an audience that I don't think I'm a part of (though that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it - see; ponies). I also believe that anime tends to be quantity over quality, because of its market demand now that more people from overseas can enjoy it (as opposed to the 80s or 90s, where it was much less common for people in other areas of the world to watch anime regularly). With the conventions and quantity, anime tends to "blur" together for me - I start seeing shows with magical schoolgirls and another with giant robots and I start to wonder what makes it different. Most importantly is that I've just gotten the bad first impression. As a kid, I only had the option of merchandise-driven shows (like Beyblade) or shows that were bad/made even worse by dubbing (like Sonic X). As an adult, I now get recommendations for shows where the protagonist is a murderous psychopath and a boring Mary Sue or there's robots fighting and kids being depressed and it seems so hard to find an anime that makes sense. Again, it's because I'm not used to the culture or conventions that anime generally has. And because I'm dumb. It's all subjective, of course. FMA has proven that Sturgeon's Law is in effect for this sort of thing.

    Japanese shows!

I saw a trailer for Brotherhood, it looks better from what I got. If you can point me to a website where I can view it for free that isn't Hulu and its would-you-like-a-commercial-every-five-minutes plague, then I'd love you forever. (Unless that's not allowed on the forums? I'm not sure.)

    Japanese shows!

Okay, I watched it. ... ...... ......... that was actually pretty good The first episode of this one involved the prologue with Ed doing that "I want my mom back" thing where he loses limbs and something, and then they go to a town and there's some priest whose conning people with alchemy. As far as I know, that's the same as the manga.

Despite the bad impressions it has set on me, I am about to watch an anime. Full Metal Alchemist, to be exact. No, I don't know which one it is, it's the one on Netflix if you can tell from that fact. Wish me the best of luck. This one might not be awful.

  12. If this doesn't put a smile on your face, something is wrong with your soul and you should get it checked out. As for actual shows, I dunno. Sailor Moon probably never had a sad moment in it. Maybe. I dunno.

You retrieve the fancy steampunk-y mask from the SAFE. It is finely crafted, made from the purest silver and sculpted perfectly for your face. Unfortunately, you cannot wear a SCARF over a MASK. That would be silly. You decide to throw it away and wear a SCARF over your face instead. Silver is not very comfortable on your cheeks. Wool certainly is. You look outside your WINDOW and see a DERAILED TRAIN. You wonder what it means. EDIT: Actually, the genre should be text adventure. mwahaha

Story: They say that Steam Peaks used to be a fairly peaceful city, but those were the old days. After a terrible riot, the City Administrators cracked down and started segregating the populace. The zoning led to even more anarchy, which led to more offensive police, which led to an arms race between them and the criminals of the city. Things have changed in the recent years. "The Guy" relaxes at his jazz club with his accountant "Mr. Silent" and his right hand man "Huff the Axecutioner", as their mob gets to work racketeering and blackmailing anyone who dares to interrupt his showtunes. Cults rise on a weekly basis in the slums and back alleys, as the Church of the Eight Ball fights against Cubic Dominus, while the Binary Order seeks a higher goal. Whispers of heroes, villains, and anyone in between can be heard in the dead of night, as men tell tales of an assassin hidden beneath a scarf and hood, a brilliant engineer who enjoys the sound of cogs and gears turning, and the old man Eun, who once saved the city but has been missing ever since. You arrive in Steam Peaks, hoping to find your fortune. Will you watch it rise or see that it falls? Genre: Open-Ended Adventure (Deus Ex, Dishonored, etc) Tone: Crime Noir. Music: Varies. "The Guy" is accompanied with smooth jazz, "The Binary Order" is accompanied with electro, etc. Gameplay: Oh god I'm done with this somebody else can come up with this bit I imagine Dishonored with an extra drop of Dishonored because Dishonored was awesome did I mention I like Dishonored

    FUCK YES

I feel this game has aged poorly, especially those controls and the fanfic-quality story and dialogue. ...But let's face it, you'd pay twice the money for the Chao Garden alone. Which is exactly what I'm doing. *buys*
