Right, I have now hugged everyone, getting responses ranging from "oh, MVM, huh, kinda cool I guess" to "sorry, I'm picking up pieces of my brain" and "HOLY SHIT I AM GOING TO ♥♥♥♥ING EXPLODE OR EVAPORATE OR SOMETHING". With my fangasm now out in the open with zero shame, I can collect my thoughts and look over why this is going to be an amazing thing for us. The Gamemode The "players against waves of bots" things has been done for a long time. To name just a few, it's been done in Halo's Firefight, Gears of War's Horde, Dawn of War II's Last Stand, Left 4 Dead's Survival, Call of Duty's Survival, Monday Night Combat's Blitz Mode, and many more. Team Fortress 2 seems fit for the role, with its huge variety of classes and weapons. Furthermore, you can see that they've been honing this over time, especially with the Halloween updates. Is this going to be fun? Hell yeah, you know it is. The pessimist inside me says that they'll be balance issues, but that's why we come to our next point... The Bots I love those designs. I love them so much. They look just right, being shaped after the mercernaries and obviously put together in mass production with their stocky jagged shapes and simple looks. I've heard people complaining that they're "too basic" but what that means is they want robots wearing hats. I also love that there are variants to each class, such as how there is the "Bowman" (Huntsman Sniper bot) and the "Sydney Sniper" (Sydney Sleeper Sniper bot). It means there's a lot of variety in the enemies and a lot of things to watch out for. Valve has also kept a sharp eye on balance, possibly by watching fan mods. If anyone has played Vs. Saxton Hale or Freak Fortress, you'll know that there are some overpowered strategies, such as sentries keeping the boss airborne or excessive spam. Luckily, we already have an example of deliberate "screw your coward tactics" with the Sentry Busters and Deflector Heavy - and I'm sure there's more on the way. Simply put, there's gonna be a lot of enemies to adapt to in this, and that's the key to a good "players against waves of bots" game mode. The Comic It's Valve writing. You know it's gonna be funny. Saxton Hale comes across as a very witty guy in this one, while still being charismatic and MANNLY as usual. Standout lines include the Bob Hope tangent and Saxton's epic "truth words". It's just a hilarious bit of lore that I can sink my teeth into. The Movie ...Where to start for this one? Okay, so we open up with an abandoned Mann Co facility. Like the comic, it's actually setting up a bit of weight and it's got a nice downtrodden mood. Then Heavy, giving zero ♥♥♥♥s about the snow and ice, trudges up to Scout. Engineer spots them and jumps in, all the while the music is slowly pacing away. Soldier and Demoman are playing a card game and in bursts the RED team. The music rises and holds as Heavy points his shotgun at them... and then it rises in an AWESOME flourish as he hands it to them. Goddamn that was a cool moment. Medic spots them too and quietly sends Archimedes away (which, I'll admit, is really adorable). Then they stand and, my God, that one profile shot with the six of them together? I've got that as my wallpaper now, because it's just so badass. Theeeeeen the tank carrier appears and robots. Lots of robots. What does Heavy do? Run from this army of metal? Call for help or suggest a retreat. No, he screams and charges head first at them. Like a MANN. Bam. August 15th. It takes me about ten minutes to get my jaw off the floor. The short is very simple in narrative, but it just oozes with style and pacing and I love it. The Future I'm not a complete optimist, and one or two neeeeeeighsayers have pointed out that it can all go wrong, with overpowered weapons or expensive crafting recipes. While I think getting all of this awesome stuff for free and complaining about the crafting recipes is the dumbest ♥♥♥♥ing thing I've heard this month, I sympathize. We could be getting some OP weapons. We could be getting a rise in store prices. We could be getting tons of bugs and glitches. But I'm convinced this is going to be good. Call me a fanboy, but I love this update so far, and not even a huge Spy nerf could shake my joy right now. Here's to Day 2. *raises glass* *rests his fingers* That was a long post.

For ♥♥♥♥ sake Valve, HOW ARE YOU MAKING SO MANY AWESOME THINGS SO MUCH SO QUICKLY NOW We're gonna have to bury the Valve Time meme, they've got their shit together. We can still make Episode 3 jokes, though. Until, at this rate, next month or something. Also am I the only one looking for possible clues in the background? TF2 and DOTA2 items in there, man. /tinfoil

Because I might never get another chance, here's my "necro'd thread" gif of choice. I loved that scene. So creepy.

Maybe I'm clutching at straws here, but you notice they made an announcement on the forums about Blood Brothers? This? That's cool and all, but look at the date for the post."08-12-2012 until 08-19-2012"Does that mean nothing for a week? Or is this update week? OR I DO NOT KNOOOOOOW

Jump scares and the like are going to kill me somehow, I just know it.
Skye replied to Simon's topic in Digital Gaming
And now you see why I never trust any of you when it comes to links. It doesn't help that I'm an absolute coward. I mean jeez, apparently one jump scare was so bad that I was catatonic for a few minutes after one. I don't even remember this and it's only because someone told me about it that it happened. Or, you know, they were lying to me. It's hard to tell with a mind like mine. -
Well, who knows. Maybe we'll get a promotional tie in. Say, a Dishonored Update?(That is horribly overpowered and written by someone who mains Spy and is so not biased?)
-
I thought it was a reference to this. Then again, it does seem rather specific for just a reference to an old joke. Hm.

"Redmond, I propose a truce..." *click* "So that we can build a machine to make one of us pregnant." You honestly have no idea how much I laughed. I'm not even fucking joking, my brother from downstairs had to come up and check on me because I was laughing so fucking hard. Faust sake, best update ever already. god I'm still hurting that was hilarious

Quaint little strategy game, sort of like Chess if the pieces fucked each other up (and I don't mean Wizard's Chess). It's not the most amazing pocket strategy out there - Advance Wars: Days of Ruin remains my favourite - but like Alex said, it's a nice timekiller. I've got it but I don't want to / don't know how to play against strangers.plus hats

A Very SUBSpuf Christmas! Everyone dies. Actually, if I ever get around to introducing all the kids by Christmas - assuming this is at Christmas and it isn't another summer Secret Santa calender confusion thing - then I could get a commissioned Christmas wallpaper or something. mmm let me continue sucking my own big throbbing ego for a second go read subspuf it's great mmmmmm okay done Other than that, uh... I dunno. How the Gigolo Stole Christmas?

Mm, the drama. It's delicious.:stick:Back on topic, the map is pretty fun. I find the urban style actually does fit with TF2 (though loosely) and I didn't have any problems in navigating or understanding the map - the fundamentals, like arrow signs and coloured lighting are still there. My only problem with the map is that it's a bit plain and some stuff like height advantage seems to be missing. If they added some balconies or maybe a subway section with an open top or something, I'd find it a lot more fun. It's still a fine map though, and I hope we see more maps with the style. Then again, you know... Lumberyard...
-
Yeah. ♥♥♥♥ teamwork. Anyway, gonna try the map now. We'll see how it goes. Also I'm very annoyed that the Ninja Cowl is a hat and not a misc, ala Noh Mercy. I was finally hoping for a misc that wouldn't horribly clip with the Dashin' Hanshanshin. ARGH

Sky....Hey, wait a minute.
