Commander is highly dependent on your playgroup not escalating to singleton legacy. I think the best format is probably draft but it hinges on the quality of the set for draft so I dunno.

I'll give you triple Innistrad draft over Commander, but for the most part I'm not a huge drafter.  Triple-INN was just the best draft set of all time though.  And as the guy who had a large part in escalating my group's Commander to singleton legacy...sorry.

  2. Something that the rules text on those two legends doesn't say, but was confirmed later-cards that have "partner with X" as a mechanic are allowed to be used in tandem as commanders, similarly to the partner mechanic from Commander 2017. I think that's pretty awesome, it's a neat way to at least partially bring Partner back, even if you're forced into using a specific card for your second commander.

Also Jaybee, if nobody's told you yet, play Commander. It's the best version of Magic and nobody can convince me otherwise.  It also has the added bonus of making the supplemental sets like Conspiracy and yes, even Battlebond super fun.  Plus you can do some...interesting stuff in Commander.  I once won a game in which one of my opponents had gained infinite life and had a boardstate with a couple of hundred flying tokens.

  3. So I have most of the pieces to my Slimefoot EDH deck, I think I'm waiting on like 6 or 7 cards either from Dominaria or just the mail.  I goldfished it a few times just to see how the deck plays...good God.  This thing just throws out Saprolings like a machine gun.  I've also discovered a few accidental infinite combos, outside of the ones I deliberately put in.  This thing is going to be fun as hell once I start actually playing with it.  Slimefoot is lowkey one of the most powerful generals from Dominaria, I think.

  4. Even though I don't really play too much anymore, I spent the weekend upgrading my Erebos EDH deck. It feels good to deckbuild again, there were a bunch of kind of expensive cards I couldn't afford when I first built this deck that I can get now that I'm working full time. This deck is going to be nasty once it's fully completed.

I don't even know enough systems well enough to make a decent list.

Neither do I, but I'm currently slowly making my way through reading Polaris (kind of a cooperative storytelling game set at the North Pole where a bunch of doomed knights fight demons), Savage Worlds and Wolf Packs and Winter Snow (D&D clone, set in the Ice Age.  One of the player classes is a Neanderthal, it's awesome).  Need to read the OG Star Wars RPG, maybe when it finally gets released as the anniversary edition.

Also I love how nobody has Starfinder on their list.  What a wasted game.

  6. So just when I thought that Wizards was going to turn it around with Dominaria, when we were on the upswing, they go and pull the dumbest fucking stunt I think I've ever seen them do.

So this is a card that got leaked last week, to pretty decent reviews from the EDH crowd.

    en_bjiAZMhsh8.png

Look! It's a Boros commander (typically the weakest color combination in EDH) that doesn't care about the combat step! And it's a rare! We can finally do something besides turn cards sideways in Boros!

Except good luck getting one of these cards because it's the buy a box promo AND YOU CAN ONLY GET THIS CARD FROM BUYING A BOX.  It's not going to be in any boosters, it's not going to be in intro packs or anything.  No.  The only way you can get this card is to drop roughly $100 on a box and pray that your LGS both has copies of this card left in stock (because it's going to be an insanely limited print run of these bad boys) and they haven't just kept all the promos so that they can sell them at marked up prices.  Oh and if that weren't bad enough, you have to buy the box before the prerelease weekend to get one.  Because printing a super limited card isn't enough, they have to go and timegate it too.  I'm fucking pissed about this, this is such a bad precedent and I hope Wizards gets so many angry letters about this because frankly it's absolutely unacceptable.

  7. As if m25 wasn't bad enough, now it turns out they didnt properly randomize the packs. Theres a video floating around that I would link if I wasn't at work that shows a guy opening 2 boxes of m25 that are exactly the same. Same rares, in the same spots in the box. It's absolutely insane.

  8. I agree, it seems like it's going to be a fairly complex set and I'm thrilled about that.  Time Spiral was a fantastic set, and I agree how it seems like since Tarkir everything's gotten a bit easier.  Not sure if this is a return to the older style of complexity or if it's a onetime thing, but I'm cool with it either way.

  9. It looks that way, there's a few others in the document that are old MTG expansions.

Also, enemy checklands are the rare land.  This combined with ally checklands in Ixalan means that Standard is about to get really good mana fixing.

  10. The Dominaria release notes got leaked, take a look.  Tons of cards got spoiled, along with the fact that every booster is going to have at least 1 legendary creature in it.  I'm gonna post a few cards that I find fun.

  11. I'm pretty sure original MM was supposed to be $6.99 here in America, I never saw it sold for that little though.  I remember picking up packs for $9.50 each, which is the absolute lowest I've ever heard of them selling for.  When I was living in England, about 6 months after the set released, I bought a few packs for £12 each.  But I STILL got my money's worth from those packs, that set was crammed with value even if you were buying them for twice the MSRP.  The only set that even comes close to the original Modern Masters is MM17, and even then it's nothing compared to the original.

  12. I have a feeling that the financial guys are right-between this and Iconic Masters, Wizards is looking REALLY bad with supplemental sets at the moment.  I'm not sure how great the last Commander series did either.  They were alright last year, but nothing as batshit insane as previous years had been.  I have a really bad feeling that Dominaria is going to be Wizards' last chance-this thing is gonna need to sell like no set has ever sold before.

EDIT: Found a really good post on reddit that explains the current situation.  TL;DR:  Masters sets are coming way too often, with not enough value to justify the $10/pack purchase, especially when they're supposedly made for drafting.  Combine this with regular block releases, Commander sets (which are going up in price this year, which compounds this issue even more) and other supplemental sets (Conspiracy, Un-sets, stuff like dual decks/planeswalker decks/etc) and that's a LOT of money you could theoretically be spending.  The guy calls it "wallet fatigue" and I think he's got a huge point here.  Wizards is spewing out so many different products these days and it's impossible or very expensive to keep up, so why bother at all?

Poor Stangg. I don't really care about whether or not WotC is blackwashing cards, but would it have killed them to make the card look anything like the original?

Hey, at least we get a kickass Stangg Twin token! And Kobolds of Kher Keep get their own tokens for the first time ever! Why am I more excited for the tokens of this set than I am for the actual cards?!

  14. Corvette, after seeing Tree of Redemption get spoiled as one of the final mythics, I'm inclined to agree with you.  This set is pretty garbage.  The watermarks are awesome though, and I hope they keep it up in the future.
