One thing that hit me - It's like TF2. Certainly when we all joined TF2, we had no idea what each weapon did. We probably had difficulty trying to understand the stock 26. Here we are with upwards of 130 weapons, and each of us could name and describe each and every one of them except crap like the diamondback - i keep forgetting it exists All with experience.

http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/qckss/new_players_reddits_compiled_guide_to_dota2/ Basically every good guide ever. You could spend 100 hours reading/watching this stuff. Also, Purge teaching TotalBiscuit to play. Not exactly pro stuff, but seeing everything from TB's newbie standpoint really helps step up your game if you're not exactly pro material.

I guess it comes with experience. Until then, just stick to whatever the game's built in recommended items are - if only because Valve says so. There's even an option for the game to buy your items for you. And if you slip too far into the game, you'll end up like us. Being able to look at one of the ~450 skills and immediately knowing what it does and how to counter/avoid it. EDIT: i guess slipping too far into the game comes with a dota hivemind ninja reflex

On a dark Dire side lane, cooldown in my hair Warm smell of creep score, rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light My clicks grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night There she stood by the tower; I heard the First Blood bell And I was thinking to myself, "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell" Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way There were voices down the middle lane, I thought I heard them say... Welcome to the Defense of the Ancients Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place) Such a lovely face Plenty of room at the Defense of the Ancients Any time of year (Any time of year) You can find it here Her skills are Tiffany-twisted, she got the Heart of Tarrasque She got a lot of pretty, pretty stuns that she calls Cask How they dance through the heroes, sweeeeet dota skills. Some play to remember, some play to forget So I called up the Kunkka, "Please bring me my whine" He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine" And still those voices are calling from far away, Wake you up in the middle of the night Just to hear them say... Welcome to the Defense of the Ancients Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place) Such a lovely face They livin' it up at the Defense of the Ancients What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise) Bring your alibis Mirrors on the ceiling, The pink champagne on ice And she said "We are all just heroes here, of our own device" And in the Dire's Ancient, They gathered for the feast They gank it with their spells and nukes, But they just can't kill the beast Last thing I remember, I was Running for the door I had to find the passage back To the place I was before "Relax," said the Tiny, "We are programmed to receive. You can ragequit any time you like, But you just can't never leave!"

The problem - Dota doesn't have AP growth. However, all abilties are comparatively stronger early game. Nukes are much more effective, stuns and CC are more prevalent, last longer, stuff like that. Playing an ADC is basically the same thing.

It's more fan fiction than Atropos' actual lore, but still.

Alex, what are your favorite League champs? I know you liked Lux, and the closest heroes i can think of are Lina and Lich, both fairly easy squishies that can support or ganker mid. Lina is arguably the best burster in the game. Hard to land stun (Think Veigar's Dark Matter). Large AoE Nuke. Her ult rips an ungodly amount of damage - Usually enough to bring even the tankiest of heroes to half health, and the squishiest might even insta-gib. Her passive gives her movespeed and attackspeed, so she can mop up anyone that survived. she is also my favorite and no i will not share Lich is simple, but very effective. He's got a simple burst AoE that damages and slows movespeed and attackspeed. He can give an ally ice armor, which also slows any melee units that attack. Then he can kill allied creeps for instant mana and do it all over again. His ult is the bane of all teamfights - An orb of sheer damage that bounces between enemies.

-During Juggernaut's Blade Fury, Jugg CAN attack, but it will do no damage. However, this will apply debuffs like Orb of Venom and Desolator. Also, if you're attacking a magic immune unit (Rage'd Naix, BKB, Tower) your attacks will do damage, and it will be as if you were attacking as usual. -You can Force Staff an enemy into Disruptor's Kinetic Field. They can also force staff out. -If you Glimpse an enemy that teleported in, they will be sent back to where they were before the teleport. -You can attempt to deny a teammate that is Nightmared - this will move the Nightmare to you instead. If you are Bane, you have a special ability for breaking out of Nightmare if you transferred it to you. -Nightmared enemies will wake up on taking magical damage, but Nightmare will not transfer. -Most if not all forms of Magic Immunity and Invis can be used while channelling a Teleport Scroll. -Medallion of Courage is awesome and more people need to buy it.
