I've taught many newbies to Dota. I've always followed a "Need-to-know" basis where I only introduce things that are immediately used. Things like "Buy some stuff to grow stronger", because: -The newbie has a chance to directly act, cementing lessons in a simple way. -The newbie sees the results immediately, cementing lessons intuitively. I also believe that blocks of text simply don't teach as well as visual learning does. I'm hoping to stick with a Radiant Tidehunter the entire time, unless I find another hero that is simply easier for newbies. (I want to stay away from carries due to the massive demand they have. Tidehunter is effective, simple, not item reliant, and tanky enough to withstand any muckups.) I'm hoping that seeing the same hero do all these things, a newbie could easily repeat what I'm doing and make the connections for himself. By seeing me go through a staged game, they also learn Tidehunter who imo is a great hero for newbies to start with.

i played it beta. Imagine Minecraft with guns. Gameplay is repetitive. Many community-made maps exist, but people will usually get round them the same way. AFAIK, they still have randomized maps. With a different map each time, players will make bunkers and trenches and foxholes in different spots. If you love feeling like you're fighting an actual war, get this game. But don't expect the core gameplay to be radically new and refreshing every time.

too true I've played a bit with Shredder. He's but underused is all. Almost all of his damage is Pure, meaning he gives zero ♥♥♥♥s about BKBs and Omni and Naix and Jugg. His cooldown is small enough that he can constantly use them. However, his overreliance on trees and mana tend to make his gameplay rather quirky. His Whirling Death is rather situational. You're usually not close enough to a tree to make it Pure damage, so it's more of just a nuke for teamfights. It also cripples Strength Heroes by ripping off a large chunk of their max health. Timber Chain is IMO his best skill. With that fairly long range and tiny cooldown, the only thing between you and a perfect initation/chase is mana and positioning. A Pure damage nuke ain't that bad either. Reactive Armor is one of the worse ones, and only helps against early game harass and if the Carry decides to kill you. It's okay for surviving after you Timber Chain out of a sticky situation. Chakram is basically the best thing ever. With the help of a Storm Hammer, Chakram will rip 560 health right out, and you could be long gone by the time you get that kill. What really cinches it is the slow - a half-dead enemy will be 50% slowed. A ♥♥♥♥y AM will be slowed for 80%. Yeah, but only because of Firefly. Anyone that sticks around for the entire 18 seconds deserves to instagib. Most people would be out or dead within 5 seconds.

Me, my brother, and Hertz tried that. Hint: Global skills are overpowered as ♥♥♥♥. Constant Global Silence hurts. Constant Wrath hurts. Constant Sun Strikes look ♥♥♥♥ing awesome and I was screaming "EXTERMINATUS!!!!!!" the whole time but it HURTS. When you make a Practice Lobby, you can enable Cheats. When you go into the game, type "-wtf" or "-lvlup 25" or "-gold 9999999". Stay the fuck away from bots. They can and will abuse constant Storm Bolts.

The game tends to break into 3 distinct stages: Early Game - The early stage of the game. Most Heroes are too weak to do anything so they try to accumulate as much gold and levels as possible. Mid Game - The middle stage of the game. Most heroes are strong enough to attempt ambushes and kill enemy players - these ambushes are known as Ganks. Late Game - The later stages of the game. Here, everyone is very strong, everyone has a lot of health, and it falls upon your Carry to achieve much. As you can imagine, a Carry is named so because he carries the team. Heroes are split into a few distinct groups. Mages (For lack of a better word) rely more on thier magic spells - known as Abilities - to do damage. In general, all Abilities start off very strong, but after a while, they stop growing altogether. Because thier strength cuts off after a while, Mages are most effective during the Early and Mid Game. Gankers, in short, have strong ambushing capabilities. "Gank" stands for "Gang Kill", which is very appropriate - most Gankers are not lone wolves and will require teammate assistance for a kill. Most enemies will be in a perfect stalemate with your teammates, and a Ganker excels in suddenly breaking that stalemate in favor of your team. Many Gankers may also be Mages, and Gankers are effective during Mid Game, and may grow strong enough to stay effective long after. Carries rely on thier regular attack. While all heroes have a regular attack, Carries have the potential to have absurdedly strong ones - strong enough that the entire game revolves around them. Unlike Abilities, Autoattacks have the potential to grow forever. The longer the enemy waits, the stronger your Carry is. Carries start the game weak and vulnerable, but thier power grows as the game goes on. Supports support the team, either by protecting the team in a large fight, or simply keeping the Carry safe. Supports might have an ability that heals teammates, but all Supports are known for not needing resources - instead allowing the Carry to take everything. Supports are generally effective Early and Mid Game. Initators win teamfights. As the game goes on, your whole team will inevitably thier whole team. Initators are there to initate a teamfight, usually by disabling the enemy teams - somehow taking control away from the enemies. While they scramble to regain control, your Carry can abuse his godly damage and destroy 1 or 2 enemies before they can even act. Initators are most effective Mid and Late game, as they are generally only useful when your team decides it's time for a serious fight. if this didn't drive you away immediately that means you're doing very good compared to most newbies. i am not exaggerating.

This is actually starting to freak me out. That Login Quota thing is NOT the same popup as what it was before the Calamity. There have been EXACTLY 2 posts since "SPUF" went up. There have been EXACTLY 9 views to that new thread. Maybe my lack of SPUF is messing with me and all the tinfoil must surge to my brain, but it's not like a phishing site has been outrulled. But that's the thing. We know SPUF is hackable - we all probably remember that one weekend where SPUF was graffitied. If this is malicious, they all of a sudden will plaster "Rynjin" and "password1234" into every site they know and see if they happen to find a match.

Cell's theory is that it's a phishing site. Considering how it magically forgot our credentials and refuses to let us in.... :tin:

It seems all we ever talk about in this thread are weapons. EXCEPT NEW WEPONS
