Morphling is meh. Morph AGI/STR is useless to him if he doesn't understand the concept of them yet. Using the ult properly is a pain, since Micromanagement is implemented in a completely different way in League. Ask him what champions does he like to play, along with any quirks he has (like Garen bottom lane or supportive Teemo or building Lucidity boots for more stuns). Who a person plays and how they play them is the biggest way to look into what playstyle fits him best.

I hear Tidehunter is a good pick for newbies. Lots of people on the forums say to avoid carries as first heroes, since they'll probably just play that one hero they're comfortable with. Rubick is one of the harder heroes. He's like Spy in that a sucessful Rubick needs to vaguely know how to play every other hero.
