Few years ago, my parents promised me they would buy me a laptop when I went to college.They weren't serious at the time, but I made them change thier mind just now.I'm horrible at hardware - are there any suggestions or tips I should know for picking the right laptop for me?All I'm really looking for is a strong enough laptop, able to handle most games. I don't have a set budget, but anything past $1000 is probably pushing it by a lot.

Half school, half games. Something like how I'd use my own desktop - It's strong enough to handle most games smoothly, but I'll end up splitting the focus fairly evenly.EDIT: Now that I think about it, I'd rather the specs be similar to a gaming computer as well. Fairly high specs (6-8gb RAM, 400+gb disk space...)

Regarding gameplay, the stats are 100% exactly the same, right down to how quickly you turn 150 degrees to use a skill. However, DotA 1 graphics are poop, the UI isn't all that straightforward, and the keybindings are literally everywhere. But at the same time, with godly RTS skills, you'd be able to understand the map immediately. Things like ambushing and pincer attacks and playing with fog of war would come naturally.
