So me and my brother challenged each other to a run of Dark Souls 2 with some catches (which we might change as we go on):   - Imported Clothes only (the rags that you start the game with, even the armor that you get when you choose a class is better) - Depraved only (the worst class to start as, it has the worst stats, but offers the most versatility as the player has more control of where the early skill points go) - Only weapon allowed is the Mace - No glitching allowed (not like either of us know how to glitch) - Offline mode entirely - We start and stop sessions at the same time, first person to beat the final boss wins.   First day, I managed to beat the Last Giant first, and got a head start towards Heide's Tower of Flame. Brother died to Last Giant too many times and called it quits. He had entirely ignored getting the Estus Flask until his 3rd death.   Second day, today, brother killed Last Giant on his first try and made a mad dash towards the Dragonrider. He killed him before I could, because I took my time with the enemies. We then ran through No-Man's Wharf, he got to the Flexile Sentry first, but I killed it first. He took one look at my victory and called it quits.     He's been spending a lot of his souls on levels, to the point where he's beating me. I have two Titanite Shards to upgrade my maces, and I need to restock on Lifegems, but I think I'm winning this race so far - if only my brother didn't stop the sessions so quickly.

The idea is it's like any horror game - spooky scary things are gonna kill you - but it entirely removes the Fight or Flight reaction.   Games like Dead Space are barely scary because you're a walking armory. Then Amnesia, where you still have some control by running away. Then there's this, where you're almost entirely powerless.

Yeah the artificial difficulty is strong in the Dark Souls series. Early on, you can get a Ring of Life Protection, which prevents you from losing souls and losing max health upon death, but you must fix it every time with 3k souls.

I learned by doing small comboes with Big Band. If you try to drill in a 2-3 hit combo, it'll be muscle memory soon enough.   The best combo I can do is only 4 hits, but it works.
