The problem is that any attempt to shift power from the wealthy is called communist/socialist, and prior generations have lived through enough of WWII/Cold War that the whole Red Scare thing is still fairly prevalent in the less informed parts of America. I don't see any way to fix our problems unless some massive event shakes at our foundations and we realize we need change. For example I believe it was WWII where much of europe saw the devastation, and came together to make better health programs in general.
