It's 3.5, and I don't know if his HP was 10. I was guessing. The DM said "you guys literally did just enough damage to kill him," when talking about it later on. ​He was possessed and had tried to kill us. As soon as he was "released" he fell to the floor crying. Using "my character is a drunken asshole" as an excuse, I decided I was going to kick him while he was down in retaliation since I failed a reflex check at the start (with a 1) and was knocked unconscious for half of the encounter. I actually said "I'm going to kick him in the side" but somehow I ended up kicking him in the head. I think the DM fucked up. Anyway, it was accidental since I hadn't intended to kill him. The Barbarian had a higher initiative, did his damage, and I decided to continue with my kick since I had already planned it and didn't think kicking him in the side would kill him. :shrug: Instead of any information we could've gotten from him, our Rogue and Druid took some strange ash from his corpse, so we'll see what happens with that. I'm a Lawful Evil Ranger Half-Elf, by the way.

​...How do you accidentally kick someone? Literally the only way to hit someone is to say "I hit that guy". Plus even if you did somehow do it, it should have dealt nonlethal damage, which is HIGHLY unlikely to result in death (you need to deal roughly DOUBLE the damage normally required to kill someone). I think your GM is just fucking with you. ​Our Barbarian had hit him in the head with a mace just before I kicked him. He did 6, I did 4, guy's HP was 10.
