This is exactly what happened to me after I joined MLM a few weeks ago. My intro thread was met with several "well, we'll never see this fucker again" posts, I tried and failed to get in on all their in-jokes and such, and I've never gone back. It's the impenetrable community that drives people away, not a few weird threads.
