Because "memes" are apparently the scourge of the earth. I see the issue with most memes in general. But frankly, I like that they do this. The devs are actually paying attention, and making a game for the players, not for the guy that signs their paycheck. I'd go as far as to say a good portion of the jokes are in there not in there because they like the joke, but because they're poking fun at it.
