Sounds like your disk is going kaput. Frankly. the best method I can think of is to take the hard disk out, and hook it up to another computer, then take the files from there. Then wipe it, reformat, and re-install.

16 gigs should be more than sufficient, as you should be able to expand your storage with a larger SD card. (along side the 16 gigs of internal storage)

Don't use the program. It's best to just follow the directions on the tutorial. You just have to take your time, and follow each step, and it will work. Then, once you forward the port, just test it by downloading the server exe from minecraft.net. Then get your IP from whatismyip.net, and try to get people to connect to it. Once you get the port working, the rest of the setup is very easy. Try those and let me now if it works.
