The thing is, Dota has been designed from the ground up to be an esport. Compare the spectator functions in TF2 and Dota. Number of spectators? The ability to buy tickets to watch matches? Drops from simply WATCHING a game live? Built in delay? Casters? Ect. It really isn't surprising , to be frank. Dota is a much better spectator sport than TF2. Not saying that one is more fun than the other, just that it is more fun to watch.

Basically, you are a big guy in a 5v5 big guy fight. You need to kill the big thing on the enemies side, but there are turrents and the other big guys in your way. you need your little guys to distract the turrents while you kill the enemies little guys to make yourself better so you can kill the enemies big guys. ... Yeah that's pretty much it. no its not.

And then I began. First off, I'm going to need to convert the existing engine to GM:S, then start making the changes I need. For the most part a majority of this progress now will be behind the scenes, but I'll try to post as I progress. Also, I have chosen writers, and they have been notified. I've been turning this over in my mind since I stopped SPUF Fortress, thought it might be interesting to discuss. So, hypothetically, someone was to develop a game based of SPUF/subSPUF. What would it look like? How does it remain fun, yet still maintain it's source material? That was the issue I've run into every time I try to set out on a game- it just never seems to mesh. SPUF fortress was just 2-d tf2. SPUF Fighter never got off the ground for other reasons. And I think this is the issue that I've been having- you cannot make a game itself directly from a forum. It's like making a game about an instruction manual, or an encyclopedia. One thing that I've been considering is a RPG, or a rougelike. One thing that started making me think about it is this. It's engaging, sounds genuinely fun, and is still unique to us. The best part is, that it would work in any genre. Thoughts? Side note: ffffffff, now I actually want to program something but I'm supposed to be writing an essay! 3 more days, 3 more days....

I believe the one I tried when I attempted to learn was called "Code::Blocks" I never got very far with C++ in general, so i cant say a lot about it, but this was was my book recommended. http://www.codeblocks.org
