We already have a NWS tag, it was used on the Freaky Fetish thread, though strictly for thread titles and not posts.

We were doing perfectly fine in the Fetish thread when it wasn't stowed away like some rash we're ashamed of.

Why is there an age requirement for the subforum?

It just strikes me as completely unnecessary that we'd need a passworded subforum for "controversial topics" and "mature discussions", when we should be able to handle it. Maybe add in a rule stating that threads must be named what the topic of discussion is, that way people can avoid those threads, but making a subforum just seems a bit excessive.

Are we not mature enough to be able to handle discussions on our own? I can name users that make ad hominem attacks on one hand, we already have a rule for not being a douchebag. Since threads are usually titled with something relevant to the discussion at hand, it's already a user's choice whether or not to look into a thread that's about a controversial topic. Any discomfort experienced on their part is their fault.

Except that's still attacking the person in a way, so that rule contradicts itself. Agreed. Why exactly do we have to have a different subforum for this when we can simply amend some rules for discussion?

I have 1 user on my ignore list, currently, and their posts still show up, however they're hidden in what amounts to a spoiler tag that hides the entirety of that user's post. If I so choose, I can show the contents of that post, like with our new spoiler tags.
