The area I just entered in Bravely Default has a ton of random encounters that: come in large numbers (up to six at a time) are all weak to fire give a ton of XP and JP (job points) Every gamer instinct in my body is telling me to level grind like crazy now because this probably means the game will be chucking the worst fights ever at me.

I'm predicting teams with both Salamence and Metagross all over the place. Nearly impossible to guess which is the mega until it's possibly too late and they cover each other really well, ghost and dark aside.

I'm honestly expecting both megas for Metagross and Salamence to get banned by Smogon by December at the latest. Mence is basically the old MixMence on steroids- only feasible way to down it (considering Intimidate and the defense buff) is Ice Beam/Draco Meteor from something crazy fast. Not much can take more than one hit from those stats. Metagross is exactly as powerful physically, with more bulk in both defenses and an astounding speed buff. As with Mence, special attackers are the only feasible way I can see it going down. I think I'm gonna train up a scarf Hydreigon- Meteor, Dark Pulse, Fire Blast, U-turn might be the best chance here. I prefer Simic and Selesnya personally, just because one has creatures just getting stronger and stronger forever while the other has creatures reproducing (hue) forever.

Episode 20 or so is where it kicks back into gear. Kittan gets to be legit badass in that one. Alternately, they condensed the show into two movies a couple years back: Gurren-Hen (neither got a dub) is basically episodes 1-14 except the first half is compressed like nobody's business and then the second half (once they cross the episode 8 threshold basically) goes all-out. Lagann-Hen starts with the Lordgenome fight as the prologue. And it neatly trims down the Rossiu dickery* and expands the big fighty at the climax. Way expands. *I'm of the opinion that Rossiu was firmly in the wrong genre. If he was in a Real Robot show he'd be entirely correct in his decisions. Unfortunately, he's in TTGL.

Reasons the Salvemaker boss in Bravely Default is full of dicks: Has an ability that does exactly 1000 damage and poisons the target simultaneously. Has an ability that, while it can only be used every few turns, does damage to one target equal to the amount of damage he's taken. And he has way more health than the party can ever have, so it's basically a guaranteed KO of a party member when used. The class you get as a result of it requires a literal spreadsheet to use effectively. BAG OF DICKS I SAY.

16 is a flat out clip show. 15 though, is one of my favorite episodes of anything ever honestly. I mean when a mech fight turns into a shirtless villain beating the tar out of the hero's mini-mech and then the hero stabbing him with his fecking car keys you know the show is doing something right.

The Beach Episode is a bit of a rarity in that things happen in it. I personally love episode 13.

Like, Aggron is a thing you dinguses. And Glalie... just no. edit: They got the starter's mega stats. This one I'm actually annoyed at. Just feels pointless to me. Although Glalie makes a bit of sense for Glacia to have a mega, but... Steelix? edit: Yeah, Steelix gets Sand Force. And Glalie gets Refrigerate. Thoroughly meh.

The chapter 2 boss of Bravely Default seems to be one of those "designed to make you throw the 3DS" bosses. It's wiped me twice. If I lose a third I'm gonna hit the level grind for a bit. Ton of HP, casts charm every so often, makes low-health but similar power copies of itself, and probably the worst part is when it makes the clones it also hits the whole party with a moderately powerful attack. What the hell is it with Squeenix and evil water-based bosses? okay thank god it went down round three but still a total bitch
