With science fiction I do not mean distant future, I mean it's impossible. The problem with the whole singularity story is that it acts like computers aren't oritinally made by people. And as petty as it sounds, people can just hardwire computers to not go singularity

well it kind of got fucked up by people feeding it epic maymays but yeah the Cleverbot AI was the first AI program to pass the Turing test (and the only one I know of). It cannot form it's own sentences and simply has a gigantic pool of response statistics to work with, though, so I'm not sure whether you would consider that "cheating".
