Both games were incredibly original, fun and had atmosphere I can not find enough buzzwords for. Portal had the better writing, but was rather on the short side. SotC's story was very straightforward but had a much, much longer running time. I think I'll go for SotC in the end. Half Life 2 also deserves a mention for being incredibly well-made for its time, but in the end is just a very straightforward shooter.
