I respect your opinion. It's a bit odd to say that admosphere is more important than the gameplay, but I thought it over for a while and came to that conclusion. Take the Milkman level from Psychonauts for example. Gameplay-wise, it wasn't very interesting, just a fetch-quest really. But the bizarre, freaky and yet hilarious atmosphere makes it one of my favorite parts of any game ever.

Also since you're looking for cheap games, I'd suggest trying out Tribes: Ascend. It takes ~5 hours to get into, but after that you'll have 50 to 100 hours of fun with it, and the 3 stock classes are actually the most fun if you ask me. It's not really worth spending more than 10 bucks on, though.

In my opinion, ingame pokes are not asmuch about what is good, but what is fun to use. Yanmega isn't that good, fragile with a small movepool, and you only get him at level . Personally I love using Quagsire because he evolves at just the right time and has a big movepool
