The Official Random Image Thread!! SPUF style

What would you guys expect and want to see in TF3 (that is within reason of course)? I'm pretty damn sure that TF3 would start off as free to play, it brought in all the money with TF2. Cosmetics would also be in it from the start, which might actually be a good thing as they could make it work better with the artstyle that way. I'd mostly hope that they go back to a little more serious tone: not browngrey grimdark but early TF2, where you can load 4 rockets in your launcher but not throw jars of piss at people. Even better might be if they tried something new entirely, just how they did with the transition from TF to TF2. Classwise I'd want to see the demoman and demoknight be individual classes so they can be balanced as such, instead of having the game's melee class being below average speed for no reason. Conversely I'd also like to see Spy and Sniper merged into the same class, as they basically serve the same role. But unless Valve has secretly been working on TF3 for several years now I don't think we will see TF3 within the next decade and it's hard to say whether I'll still be playing videogames then

Bern sums it up very well. Honestly, TF2 was dead to me when it became free to play, the entire atmosphere of the community just changed. Free to play games just attract a completely different audience, and naturally there was just a massive influx of new players that didn't know what the fuck they were doing. It was clear that TF2 needed that injection of new people but back then I often thought it might've been better to just stay paid and slowly die out. And that's just how TF2 has always been since then: when you join a 24 player server, a maximum of 8 people actually know how to play and the other 16 are cannon fodder. But even then, TF2 is still really fun to me, and calling a game with such a large playing community dead is probably kind of silly. The pre-F2P spark is gone but that turned TF2 from a 9.5/10 game into an 8/10 game and it is still miles better than the half a handful of other arena shooters that are still out there. And sadly it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon, as Overwatch looks to be more like a first person MOBA than an arena shooter, and dirty bomb is way closer to the millitary shooter genre than the arena shooter genre. This is also why I am so genuinely bitter about Tribes Ascend: it came at exactly the right time to grab all the leaving TF2 players and had absolutely everything going for it to (without hyperbole) become my favourite game of all time, and it got utterly destroyed by Hirez wanting to squeeze as much money as possible out of it and dropping it as soon as the well ran dry. Compared to that shit the TF2 dev team have been fucking saints for keeping it running for so long and still being a blast to play after eight years. I mean are there any 8 year old games that haven't drastically decreased in quality? TL;DR TF2 lost its original spark years ago but it's still the best online shooter out there. And considering it's almost 8 years old it could be so much worse right now.

I disagree that Valve puts the most time in the things that cost money. Looking at this update, the actual paid stuff was basically extra achievements and a bunch of new textures, while that enormous list of balance patches definitely weren't just made up on the fly. As for MvM, I never experienced it in the way you did to be honest. That is probably because I got super lucky, and cmndr was based enough to get us a private subspuf bootcamp server. I also played a ton of Mann Up and to me, the update was a huge success. Cosmetics being pushed I agree on, the latest update page is the perfect example of that. I personally don't mind it that much though, seeing as the balance patch was everything I could have hoped for. Once contracts actually work (lol) I will probably try it out, mostly because I think valve deserved some money for this last update.

"Let me assist you, doctor"

Oh man the Engineer update was such a shitstorm, people purposefully and accidentally deleting Golden Wrenches Or when people made farming servers for the Soldier versus Demo update and the drama when people said the results were fabricated

Gonna jump in here; I really hate it when people complain about things costing money in tf2. Valve needs to make money, they are a company. And the way they have used tf2 to make money is, in my opinion, still one of the best pay models in any game. After the original premium upgrade (which people pay a whopping 5 bucks for mind you, I paid 20 back in the day) there is nothing you can't do in tf2 if you do not want to invest money further, all money goes to cosmetics. They have jumped over this line a few times like with impossible crafting recipes and that one christmas update where it took like a month before the new weapons became craftable, but as it is now you get everything in tf2 that actually influences the gameplay without ever having to pay more than those original five bucks. You want all the weapons? They cost a scrap to trade. You want to play MvM? Boot camp is the exact same thing, only you don't get a cosmetic at the end. Compare this to games like Tribes Ascend who had you grinding for hours if you wanted a single new weapon without buying it and who nerfed new weapons into the ground after them being broken overpowered for the early sales, or Quake Live who only lets you access specific servers and gamemodes if you buy Gold. TF2 has a crapton of gripes and I completely understand anyone who dropped it due to the community server drama, developers not communicating, or the artstyle being utterly ruined (although you'd be several years late with that one), but if you drop it because holy shit a company wants to make money? Grow up and get real.
-
Well no shit, those weapons were both broken as fuck Also why is Scream Fortress 5 your point of death?
-
I still fundamentally don't like the idea of being able to change your weapon mid-life like that. But oh well, it probably won't be as bad as I expect it to be. Well I think that if you have all items to start with you're just going to stick with what you picked beforehand and there's no reason to switch. I am a bit worried however about how reloads will work with this: if I shoot my four rockets can I pick up a nearby black box and shoot another three without reloading? Because that'd be bullshit Skial is actually pretty good nowadays but it does have a pinion ad. Star's server is good and has decent connection even from Europe. The Reddit EU server is still probably the best server out there but not always full.
-
The weapon pickup thing sounds really cool too, although I can no longer be 1337pro with metalpulling now itll be a good way for new players to try out some new weapons they dont have yet
-
First I was happy to finally see an update Then I was mad because payshit for cosmetics Then it turns out the really REALLY good update was hidden behind all that garbage, they even turned off weapon spread by default holy shit

It's been dead since the free to play update but luckily Im a necrophiliac
