[7:00:51 PM] Idiot Cube: yeah [7:00:54 PM] DualJay: That's because you haven't seen the other (Sub)SPUFers fight [7:01:10 PM] DualJay: It gun be gud [/spoiler2] Book 1 Part 1 Chapter 9 [spoiler2] Byron’s Office Byron paced. “We’ve gotten a tip as to the Surgeon’s home base.” Octavius looked up. “What? Where?” “An abandoned military base. District 290.” “Right. What are we waiting for?” Rammite had stood and began pacing - which was usually Jay’s job, but he was absent. Still. “We’re gonna attack with daylight - I doubt we want to fight him at night. And I’d rather attack with Jay. Any ideas where he is, Cube?” “None. He just vanished... like Cavera.” Byron did his best not to groan. The telepath could be quite an advantage, if only he could focus. “Well, I’m going to see if I can call in some favors for extra support.” Ziller owed him a favor or two. ************************** Abandoned Warehouse The small form lay motionless on the cold, concrete floor. Shadows picked over it like crows on a corpse. It twitched. You won. You beat yourself. Was it worth it? Jay struggled to his feet. His eyes, despite the fact that his enhancements had been stripped away, pierced the gloom of the warehouse effortlessly. He grinned, his mouth wider than was natural, his teeth sharper and longer than before. Jay’s once-green eyes were now a glowing blood-red. His pale skin was now mottled with coal-black, which seemed to crawl and shiver about his body. He leaped sixteen feet vertically into the rafters of the warehouse, his dust-gray outfit morphing into a black broad-brimmed hat and an overcoat. The only visible features under his hat were his jack-o’-lantern eyes. It was worth it. ************************** Munda’s Penthouse Max woke up. He’d had a vision. Was his gift working again? “Munda!” He was excited now, excited enough to share his joy with his kidnapper. “I had a vision!” In a moment, Stanley was there. “What about?” “There was a fight. I think between the police and this hulking monster. They were losing.” “Describe this monster.” Stanley had needed some insights on who to side with. “It was like Frankenstein, but bigger and beefier. Like, twelve feet tall.” The implications of the vision began to sink in on Max. If it could defeat Byron... he swallowed nervously. Stanley was ruminating. He could help the cops, or he could help this Surgeon fellow - presumably the one who had created the big monster thing. But the Surgeon had killed several members of his family... And had Cavera taken. That sealed it. “I’m waging war.” ************************** Dodge’s Workshop Dodge was playing Terraria when the call came. “Mr Opliss?” “This is he. Who am I speaking to?” “Rammite, captain of the SPUF City PD.” Dodge nearly dropped the phone. “W-what can I do for you?” He shouldn't bring up Cavera, she might be hiding from them. “We understand you are the foremost mechanic in SPUF city. We need something that can break through a third-of-a-meter thick concrete wall.” “Umm... right. I’ve got some stuff, just come down to my workshop.” “We will.” “Don’t forget to bring ID - I can’t sell that to just anyone.” "We will." Click.[/spoiler2] Also next chapter concludes part 1, if all goes as planned.

And that spelled the doom of the thread. -
All is going according to plan... Also, expect a long next chapter sometime. EDIT: Actually, a shorter chapter really soon.

Book 1 Part 1 Chapter 8 [spoiler2]Unknown Hotel Room “So, tell me more about Jason Dual.” Cavera shifted, picking her head up off of Simon’s shoulder. “Hmm?” She blinked, and her eyes cleared slightly. “Oh, he’s kinda creepy, I guess. And he knows some weird people.” “Weird people?” “There was the shadowy guy, and he made me feel filthy for just being near him. I couldn’t really look at him.” She felt Simon stiffen next to her, and he withdrew his arm from around her shoulder. “Did he - it - say anything?” “Kinda. Like, umm, someone evil is coming?” “Simon says remember.” “Something wicked this way comes.” A brief flicker of fear passed over his face, instantly hidden under a caring mask. He kissed Cavera on the brow. “I’ll be right back. Get some sleep, okay?” “Mmmhmm.” ************************** Abandoned Warehouse You wish to become stronger. “I must.” A small man, clad in dust-grey, stood in the middle of the warehouse. You will pay a terrible price. “I know.” You must become your own demons. And to do so, you must break them. “I understand.” Very well. The darkness around Jay thickened, until his even newly eyes enhanced could not pierce it. First, to make you human again. Every part of him that he had worked so long on enhancing burned like hydrochloric acid had been poured on it. It became even darker. Scents that had been clear faded. Sounds vanished. He was afraid. You fear the unknown. So, you must become the unknown. But first, you must defeat it. Shadows lashed out at him. Random, chaotic, invisible. Unknowable. Forms moved in the darkness. He who hunts monsters must be careful not to become a monster. But sometimes, to hunt monsters, you must become a monster yourself. And then Jay’s battle with the Unknown began in earnest. ************************** Byron’s Office Byron sat wearily across from Cube. “And you haven’t seen... Catherine... since when?” “Last night.” Cube was frantic. “And there was a corpse in her apartment, which is currently being investigated. Along with a message, for her. Ok, we’ll investigate it, but we’ve got priority on the Surgeon. By the way, Rammite and I were attacked last night by a freak. You know where Jay is?” “No, he disappeared... my God.” “What?” “He doesn’t like Cav-Catherine. And I’ve heard him say ‘you can’t run from heaven’ several times.” “I doubt it’s him. I mean, you’re a telepath. Could he hide it from you?” “I can’t even sense him. He just doesn’t show up to my sixth sense.” Byron sighed. “I’ll have someone track him down.” ************************** Abandoned Military Base Simon adjusted his collar nervously, then pushed open the door to the infirmary. “Hello, Simon.” The voice came from the small man, bent over a cadaver. There was an inhuman distortion to his voice. “Umm, sir. I was questioning our prisoner, and she said that, well, Jason Dual might have been meeting with the Stranger.” A slow exhale came from the black-clad man. “We will work around it. Now get out.” “Y-yes sir.” Simon practically sprinted back to his car. Back to Cavera. The black-clad man grinned inside. ************************** Office of Dual & Cube’s Consulting Ring. Ring. Cube grabbed the phone. “Hello?” “Umm, this is Dodge. Dodge Opliss.” “Oh.” Octavius had been desperately hoping it would be Cavera. “I’m looking for someone.” “Just about everyone is, so I’m kinda-” “Her name is Cavera Seventa. I understand that you know her.” “Yes! You have any lead?” Octavius was excited again. “No, but... listen, she’s like a sister to me. Any help you need, I’m here.” “All right. And... if you hear anything, call me immediately.” “I will. Same for you. Seeya.” “Bye.” Octavius put down the phone, feeling like he’d just had a conversation with an old friend. Dodge had sounded like a really cool guy. Maybe he’d meet him sometime soon.[/spoiler2]

Resurrection again. After some thought, and looking at the numbers, I've decided to max out support specialist. Which I've been trying to do off and on, but now I'm going to do it utterly. Why? Twenty. Four. Max. Carry. Weight. Think about it: that's the Hunting Shotgun, the HSG-1, the Flare Revolver, and the M79. And you'll still have room for pipe bombs. Plus you've got 11 grenades.

How many are you?
