Devs putting tiny freeware games on steam is pretty pointless. There really isn't any reason for a free game to be on steam unless it's full of microtransactions. There is if they want people to actually play their game. Putting it on Steam opens it up to a wider audience.

I think the death wish thing was also debunked but I can't remember what ??? actually is specifically. I think it has more to do with Isaac slipping further into his own denial and staying in the box both literally and figuratively. If becoming a demon represents Isaac accepting himself (and running away from home) then I think the blue baby represents the opposite. Whether that means he actually dies in the chest because he refuses to come out or it just symbolizes intense repression or a retreat from reality, I'm not really sure. One of the creepy/paradoxical concepts of Christianity is that the only way to be free of sin and suffering is to be dead, at which point you'll be welcomed into paradise. Personally I think the blue baby might also represent Isaac struggling with this concept as he seems to struggle to understand a lot about his religion.

Like it or not I think a similar theory was pretty much confirmed by the game's creator, so it's probably a pretty accurate interpretation. IIRC one of the only major things wrong with game theory's video is the idea that ??? is literally a dead Isaac.
